Re: rca 175

No, there is a switch that must be engaged or the bulb will not fire. You can't turn it on with the door open or the entire back off the tv with out jumping the switch.

How to replace a bulb

To replace bulb in RCA rear projection TVs follow this.
Turn the lamp assembly so that the front of the bulb faces downward
Locate two clips approximately three inches apart along the back edge of the rear lamp cover. Depress the clips with your thumbs and pull upward on the rear lamp cover to disengage it. Move the rear lamp cover so that you can see the head of the bulb. Note that the rear lamp cover still connects to the base of the bulb by a cable.

Locate the three hex screws around the head of the bulb that, in a triangle formation, secure the bulb to the assembly. Remove the screws with a hex screwdriver.

Pull the bulb and rear lamp cover upward to remove them.
Remove the nut that connects the cable from the rear lamp cover to the base of the bulb with a wrench. Disconnect the cable from the old bulb and discard the old bulb.
Reattach the cable from the rear lamp cover to the base of a new bulb and install the nut. Tighten the nut with a wrench
Install the bulb face down into the lamp assembly. Install the three hex screws into the tabs along the edge of the bulb and tighten with a hex screwdriver.

Reinstall the rear lamp cover onto the lamp assembly and line up the tabs with the holes along the side of the assembly. Press downward until the cover snaps into place.
Reinstall the lamp assembly into the back of the television, facing the bulb towards the center of the TV set. Tighten the screws securing the assembly and reinstall the lamp access door. Tighten the screw on the lamp access door.

Clean bulbs on a D56W136D

Hello. Here are the steps to a perfect cleaning job:
  1. Power down TV and unplug all cables attached to back of TV, including TV power cable. You never want to risk touching components inside the TV that could be hot, including a rear-projection bulb.
  2. 2 Unscrew and remove back cover of TV. Have someone help you if the TV is big or back cover is heavy. Most TVs will unscrew easily, but refer to your TV owners manual for specific instructions.
  3. 3 Locate and unscrew bulbs housing unit. Your owners manual can again be used to find specific instructions on how to properly unscrew bulbs housing unit.
  4. 4 Clean bulb with soft cloth and cotton swabs. Never let your bare hand touch the bulb. The oils on your hands can cause the bulbs to deteriorate prematurely. Be gentle with the cotton swabs to avoid breaking or cracking anything.
  5. 5 Reattach bulbs housing unit.
  6. 6 Reattach the back cover and have someone help you again if you needed help taking the back cover off.
  7. 7 Attach all media devices and power cords.
  8. 8 Power on the TV and begin watching.

Thanks for choosing Fixya!

Rca projection tv has no picture or osd

Check the bulbs. If one is burned out, you will get this problem. The bulb is easy to change but will run you about $300.

RCA DLP/HDTV Vertical Lines

This is djb1 who commented above on the vertical lines that have gotten progessively worse. I may have found a potential solution. I unplugged the TV, took the back door off where you replace the lamp, took the lamp out, changed our vacuum from a vacuum to a powerful blower and blew ALL visable dust off anywhere that I could. I paid special attention to the heavy dust that was on the TV blower fan blades and around the mirror. I also held the blower on the outside of the TV on the vents around the lamp door.

After I plugged the TV back in, the lines have disappeared. We watched TV last night for about 2 more hours and the vertical lines never came back. So far this morning, the lines have not come back and it has been a couple hours as well.

It's worth a try. The free solution may be as simple as clearing out all dust. LET'S HOPE IT'S A PERMANENT SOLUTION!!
