Make sure to uninstall the old Lexmark driver before installing the downloaded driver. It should automatically create a print object under "Printers" after installing the driver.

Xerox 5500DN Phaser PCL driver installed and printer and IP recogized with web printing Prints setup and help info from printer panel pefectly Paralell or IP printing from PC Host only dumps hex output...

The printer is printing in hexadecimal the binary data it is getting over the network as it does not recognize the print stream correctly. Likely reason is that the print stream originator which would be a PC trying to print to it is using the wrong driver. Could try connecting the printer directly to the PC in question and installing it as a local printer then trying to print to it directly. If the result is still a hex dump, then the drivers are incorrect. Usually the drivers not only have to be the ones for the printer but also must be tailored for the PCs operating system as well. If you can get the correct drivers for the PC and can get it to print correctly on the Xerox, then the Xerox can be reconnected to the network and re-installed as a network printer (delete the old network printer first) on the PC. During the installation of the network printer on the PC, do a final test print to check.

Failed to create print object...The specified port is unknown (1796). I have uninstalled my printer and am trying to reinstall from the original install disk. I get nearly thru the entire process and...

To me it seems that the uninstallation proagram did not fully uninstall the printer. Can you first try this guide http://www.fixya.com/support/r5071075-windows_manual_printer_removal to make sure the printer is fully uninstalled. Once you have completed the guide, remove the printer from the computer and reboot it. Then try installing the printer and plug the printer in when the installation asks for it to be connected.

Can't reinstall my Lexmark printer

Usually, that can easily be resolved by uninstalling the printer completely, then reinstalling it. To uninstall properly, click on the Windows logo Start menu > Programs > Lexmark 6500 Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. Then restart pc. To reinstall, you can use the installation cd or if you don't have it or you lost it and since you have dial-up which is slow in terms of downloading, you can contact Lexmark Technical Support for assistance. They'll be able to send you one for free. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, leave a comment and I'll get back to it. Thanks.

Apparently, the drivers for your printer is bundled in with the MAC OS CD. There are no MAC drivers on the Lexmark for your model. And the 4200 series should work.
Follow the instructions below.

Manual installation

If you plugged in the USB cable and the print queue was not created, follow these steps:
Steps Action Illustration 1 Plug the USB cable into the printer and into the Mac. ... 2 Launch System Preferences and select Print & Fax. Image 3 Click + to add the printer. Image 4 Select the printer, click Print Using and select your printer from the list. Then click Add to create the printer object. Image 5 Once the printer has been added, close System Preferences. Troubleshooting
If you installed the driver from the printer·s installation CD or from a web download, uninstall it and follow the instructions below for recovering the driver from the Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) CD.

It wont print

Hi,

I don't know why it is, but, so many of the printer problems I answer have to do with original install cd being corrupted(it may have to with mass production process) anyway, you can try this:
Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop. Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Power on pc. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your done
