Question about Epson Stylus Photo R1800 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Flashing lights My one month old printer is indicating that I need to replace a cartridge with the appropriate flashing light. The light above it is also flashing, which I believe shows a paper blockage. Thirdly, the power light is off. Can't find any evidence of a blockage. Can't replace the cartridge because the carriage will not move to the central position so that the cartridge can be removed, although it goes through the motions - i.e. Moves slowly from left to right.

Re: Flashing lights

This does suggest a software error and a chat to Epson Support would be in order. You could download the Epson utility from A useful item at any rate, This will enable to you get to the replace cartridge position. But a chat to Epson is what is required A replacement printer could be on the horizon

Hi there, my Pixma ip8500 is flashing 5 orange lights then one green light. I have recently used one of your fixes to reset the ink absorber problem, and it has been going really great for around 6 months,...

See printer status monitor. Replace the appropriate cartridge. Flashing 5 times means colour cartridge not recognized , 7 times is black cartridge.

No paper light ligted even after paper is loaded

Flashing resume light also can mean:

1. cartridge is missing or an incorrect print cartridge is installed
2. cartridge is out of ink
3. dirty cartridge contacts
4. paper jammed

Check are cartridges firmly snapped into place and not empty. Use water to wash copper on cartridges if contacts are dirty.

Flashing light indicators for replacing ink cartridges.

If the light is flashing no matter the speed, remove the cartridge and inspect it. If it is low you may still be able to print some more, but if it's small ink well is empty you will not be able to print even in black only until you replace the cartridge. Hope this helps.

Not printing green light flashing red one constant

Here is the indicator light error page from the Service Manual
You will see there is no specific error of "Power flashing" with "Error On". The inference is that the Power light was doing someting to cause it to flash (e.g. jn cartridge change mode) when something went wrong to cause the "power no change" with "red light on" error. The most likely I think is "no cartridge" - or more likely "faulty cartridge looking like no cartridge". Have you tried re-replacing the cartridge with yet another. Other possibilities are some sort of mechanical jam. Please report back on this.

BJC55 Printer not printing

There are some possibilities due to the above phenomena. Let's discuss about it:
1) If the POWER light is flashing green, then your printer is now warming up or performing maintenance procedure (replacing cartridge/tank) or cleaning print head, just wait a few seconds till the light stop flash. Also if the last page of a print job not done, this POWER light flashing green.
2) If the CHARGE/ERROR light is flashing orange with beep 3 times, it mean your cartridge need to be install (especially the 1st time turn on printer) or cartridge being replaced, just install the cartridge and press RESUME to continue.
3) If both POWER light is flashing green and CHARGE/ERROR light is flashing orange with beep 3 times, then your printer may facing a very serious error and maybe need a replacement.

Hope these help.

Using the Ink Cartridge Replacement utility in Windows

1. Open the Printers window by following the appropriate steps for your operating system.

In Windows 2000: Click START > SETTINGS > PRINTERS.

2. Right-click your printer model and select PRINTING PREFERENCES.

3. Click the MAINTENANCE tab.

4. Click the Ink Cartridge Replacement utility icon and follow the on-screen instructions to replace your ink cartridges as necessary.

Never turn off the printer while the On light is flashing or you’ll waste ink. If the ink light flashes, press the Stop button and press down all the cartridges securely.

Using the control panel

1. Turn on the printer.

2. Open the scanner and make sure its support locks in place.

3. Press the STOP button. The print head moves to the ink mark to indicate which cartridge is low or expended.

4. Press the STOP button again.

If another cartridge is low or expended, it moves to the ink mark. Press the Stop button again to see if more cartridges are low or expended.

If no other cartridges are low or expended, the print head moves to the replacement position on the right.

5. Open the cartridge cover.

6. Squeeze the tab on the cartridge and lift the cartridge straight up to remove it. Dispose of it carefully. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it.

7. Before opening the new cartridge package, shake it four or five times.

8. Remove the cartridge from the package, but be careful not to touch the green chip on the cartridge.

9. Remove the yellow tape from the bottom of the cartridge.

Do not remove any other labels or seals, or ink will leak.

10. Insert the new cartridge into the holder and push it down until it clicks into place.

11. Once you replace all the necessary cartridges, close the cartridge cover and push it down until it clicks into place.

12. Release the scanner support and close the scanner.

13. Press the Stop button to begin charging the ink. This takes about 1 1/2 minutes.
When the On light stops flashing and remains on, ink charging is finished.

Never turn off the printer while the On light is flashing or you’ll waste ink. If the ink light flashes, press the Stop button and press down all the cartridges securely.
