Could be a timing issue with the tray mechanism - possible that somebody has given the tray "a shove" to make it close instead of using the open/close button and has put the timing out.or a worn tray loading belt
I have exactly the same thing. Happened before but went away when I got bored trying to fix it. This time I phoned LG support and they said take it back to Comet (they have bought out their servicing). End of conversation. Polite but firm.
Appalling support via their websites, appalling products. Never again.
If this device is less than a year old, still under manufacturers warranty.
I do not think many technicians will like to fix these devices due to the high cost in labor and sometimes even for newer devices is hard to find service parts.
Try unplugging the DVD recorder and plug it back in after a couple of hours, hopefully that resets the memory; sometimes it works.
you need to replace the dvd loader(the whole setup, the draw/tray,laser sled assy ,etc) statewide sell
parts for lg.unless you know an authorised lg repair agent.too bad you dont know me, lol.
(ps,its not in the manual, cuz there is nothing you can really do about it without serviceing the unit)
First, make sure the DVD Recorder is completely disconnected from the Main Supply.
Then, if you look on the base of the unit, (just underneath the front of the Disc Insert/Eject Tray), there is a small slot, (approx 25 x 8mm), in which you can see a small, white, plastic lever probably situated near the right-hand side of the slot.
Then move this lever gently to the left, and then turn it on and the tray opens by pushing the button.
