Question about Nikon Coolpix 8700 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Lines in my photos

Recently I purchased a SB800 speedlight for my camera. When I fixed it and took photographs there are white horizontal lines in the photos. I tried RAW and the result is the same. Sometime after the first episode the camera returned to normal and I took good photos without the external speedlight. Again, when I attached the SB800 the problem cropped up again. Should I take my camera to a Nikon service person or is it something wrong with my settings.

The problem seems to have solved on its own. I have decided not to use the SB800 on this camera.

It is a really user friendly toy and I love the camera. Had been using for the past three years without a fault.

Looks like an incompatibility with the camera and the Speedlight- Synchronization not as it should be Check out both manuals If still in trouble Nikon Technical support may point the way

Horizontal Lines through the photo

Horizontal may not be due to the CCD sensor. It can be due to the lens itself. I swap lens from a non-working camera to replace the one with horizontal lines. I found out that I was able to get the camera to work to take great pictures.

Nikon SB 800 fires but pictures reamain dark

I have 2 SB-800s. When batteries leaked in one Nikon took forever to fix it, so they eventually sent me a refurb. Then they sent my original back. Which was great, until recently it developed this problem.

Another possibly related side effect is the modeling flash does not burst -- it only fires a single (very bright) flash.

The capacitor argument sounds likely. Coincidentally I also had a problem where the flash would fire sporadically -- but that was due to scuz buildup on the contacts.

Sorry I don't have a real solution for you.

If the photo shoot out show white , the obscure (quality variation), and even horizontal line ( white lines), and so on over-exposure cases, even if the use of anti-tremor, set to default values are invalid, because the camera shutter fault.

Can't repair by yourself.
It's need repair camera machine shutter.

Horizontal lines on image

This is not a solution , but only a work around. If you do at least 1/3 zoom on your lens before clicking a photo, these lines will not appear. But this not not a convenient way I agree.
Also this surely means that the CCD is not the problem otherwise it would have never worked ( electronic parts cant simply dont start to work when you zoom ringht ? ). Surely Nikon is fixing the issue, but cheating the customers by charging for a part is not defective in the first place

SB800 under exposure

Hi Stew,

Do the following:

ISO: 400
Shooting Mode: RAW or high JPEG
White Balance: Flash
Camera Mode: M
Camera Shutter: 30 or lower
Lens Aperture: 2.8
Flash Mode: A at 2.8
Flash: Wait until flash fully charged

Now, it's magic!
Send me some money for this tips when you make more money and produces great exposures:-)
Now, you're the top photographer in the town.

You can set ISO to 800 if you are not printing bigger than 8 X10.

Hope above are helpful to you and all photographers.
