Reddy Heater 50'000 BTU - Puffs Smoke and Leaks Out The End

I have a Reddy Heater 50'000 BTU Kerosene Heater. This is the white unit with maroon stripe, with the handle on the top.

When I plug it in unit just puffs smoke 3 or 4 times and tries to burn but then just shuts itself off. If I hit the reset switch, it just does the same thing.

What gives?

Thanks,

Bob

    P.S.

The unit is also leaking a little Kerosene out the front end as well.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Puffs smoke when starting

You may have contaminted fuel, a dirty nozzel, or you may need to replace the fuels. Insufficient air flow also can cause this. You can go the manufacturers webite a www.desatech.com . They offer service manuals that should be able to assist you. Thank you

When filled with kerosene then plugged in, the heater will kick on for about 3 seconds and the fan will run but it will not ignite, then it shuts off. reddy heater 55, 55000btu. runs on K1 or fuel oil.

Pro 110, runs 10 min., blows white smoke ,shuts off

the first thing you need to do is go back to useing K1 kerosene, diesel fuel not only burns dirty but also has a tendency to gel up in cold weather which could be makeing it hard for the heater to draw the proper amount of fuel. To reset the pressure you will need a gage, it should run at about 6-7 psi. you can order a pressure gage from mr. heater online, they are by far the cheapest I have found as they are the actual manufacturer or call 1-800-251-0001

Won't ignite and fill the entire tube with flame, cold air, smoke

The deisel fuel hogged it up. Clean everything out and replace the wick. Deisel fuel is filthy to burn and it needs a lot of airflow.
