Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer

Several problems with calypso

First the machine sounds like a helicopter taking off, then gets off balance and now it says suds lock and does not have soap in it. and when it is done spinning it sounds like the brake slamms . four different problems and i have already put a pump in it, about ready to get rid of it. i am very disappointed with this washer and i used to be a whirlpool gold star dealer. thought i had a good machine.

As a gold star dealer you should know about the lawsuit on these units.
maybe you didnt get that message.. sorry but these units are not the quality that whirlpool is known for.

go to the web site and look into what you can do to get rid of this problem and stop wasting money on fixing it.
calypsosettlement.com
good luck and hope you try a whirlpool cabrio next time. i like them and they are very reliable.

Error FL

FL= Flood Condition
FL flashes if any overfill condition occurs. This condition occurs when excessive water in the tub causes the overfill switch to trip. The control must realize that the trip was due to an overfill condition instead of a suds lock condition in order for FL to be displayed.

With an overfill condition, the beeper repeats a warning every 10 seconds with no time out. The pump is cycled in drain mode for 30 seconds on 30 seconds off until the overfill switch resets or power is discontinued to the unit.

Note: Press STOP/CANCEL to clear display on all error codes

Causes of flood condition. Inlet valves stuck on, sediment in water level pressure tube, water pressure tubing vibrated off the switch. Bad switch (highly unlikely).

Other codes:
PF power failure
Er control lost settings during PF
LF Long fill Clogged inlet screens
CE Com error between motor and control
Ld Long drain Clogged/slow drain/pump
CA/CI Motor amping up
ob off balance load
Sr relay failure no control to motor
LS Lid switch no signal from lid switch, error occurs if the motor and control disagree as to the position of the lid switch. Usually means corosion is buit up in the switch and the motor knows the lid is shut but the control does not. Code appears when start button is pressed.
open lid= flashing display time If the lid is opened time remaining flashes in display. Close lid and press start to continue.
SL Suds Lock Current draw on motor is sensed by motor control and a suds lock is declared. The control trys 3 times to fix this by doing a mini cycle, SL is displayed if the unit was unable to correct the problem. This problem is caused by:
Bad pump
Extra heavy load
Excessive detergent
or Excessive suds/wrong stuff

Water Leaking From Calypso, Won't Drain Completely

the bag type device is an overflow and should never have "water"in it, but it will get suds if you are using the wrong type of soap.
you need to use "HE" soap as it is a non-sudsing soap and thats why you are getting suds leaking from your unit.
just run the rinse and spin cycle until the suds are gone. then use the right type of soap and it will work properly with no leaks.

Calypso displaying SL or5L messages, did you get it fixed?

I see at least 2 of these a week. 9 out of 10 times, it's the pump. If the u-joint is bad, it will put strain on the motor causing it to think it's overloaded as well.

Whirlpool Calypso Washing Machine

Have you changed detergent? Have you installed a water softener or has your water source changed? Either of these could cause increased sudsing. Suds could be splashing. I have has suds on the lid when I used regular detergent, not HE.

Kenmore Elite Calypso Washer

I'm in the process of tearing apart my Calypso, Ugh. I found the diagnostic chart inside the machine. 5L is actually 'SL' which means suds lock, and can be an indicator of a failed pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds. Corrective action is to press Stop/Cancel to clear the display.

Waaaayyyyy too many suds collecting in drain box after 2 back to back loads!

very much doubt problem is with washer - after all it just takes water in and turns. points the finger at the detergent or over-dosing
