Go into the back of the dryer. Remove access to back and you will see the drum. Chances are your motor that turns the drum is loose or the shaft or spindle that the dryer spins on is loose from its bracket. Tighten all that up and it should be fine.

LG WM 0642 HW Direct Drive Making a thumping sound when spinning and smells like burned rubber. Smoke coming out of durm when front load door was opened.

Hi Paul.
What you're describing is probably the inner drum rubbing on the door seal.
It could be because the rear bearing assembly has collapsed or because the drum is distorted.
Turn the drum slowly by hand and see if the gap between the rim of the drum and the rubber seal stays the same. This will tell you if the drum is 'round' or bent out of shape.
Alternatively, if the drum flops up and down inside the outer drum it would be because of bearing collapse
Either of these situations would require a service visit and parts.

Good luck.

New Drum Install - Rubbing

Ken, Don't know if this will be of any help or not, as I've never seen a dryer drum with the felt seal on the front. All of the machines I've repaired, (and that's a bunch), had the felt seal on the rear of the drum, with the front being supported by the configuration of the front panel where the door is located. Mostly the front of the drums were supported by small strips of teflon, or cork, as slides, but that's it. Never had one with felt in front. Is it possible the drum is in backwards?

Clean heads on VCR

Q-tips, isopropyl alcohol and soft cloth + pressurized air is what you need. Disconnect from the wall outlet, open the cover. Blow the dust out with a few bursts from the air can. Clean all the upright posts along the tape path. On the left is the erase head (unless you have a fine editing VCR) - rub it clean with a q-tip soaked in alcohol - dry with a clean cloth. To the forward right of the round video head drum is the audio head, drive shaft (capstan) and rubber pinch roller. Clean all these like the erase head but use very little alcohol on the roller. Then clean the round video head. Never touch it with your fingers or anything but a q-tip or soft cloth. The actual video heads are in the tiny slots in the rotating part. Do not rub them but just touch a few times with a slightly moist (alcohol) q-tip. The rest of the drum can be rubbed normally paying attention to getting the groove clean.

When i turn the drum it sounds like something metal is rubbing on it, what can that be

the usual culprit is a rogue bra underwire which has gone through the holes in the drum. feel round inside the drum it be still sticking through a hole if so grab it with a pair pliers and pull it back. failing that if you take the heater out you can recover it through the aperture.

the back brake leaver on the rear drum is fitted to a "spline" it may have sliped round if the bolt was not tight or inside the rear drum there is a "cam" that pushes the brake shoows onto the drum this may need looking at look at the rear leaver first,, if its sliped round just take it off and put ot back on further round the spline then re-ajust the brake rod!

Loud squealing sound during spin cycle

Possibly a foreign article stuck inside the drum. When the machine goes onto spin this can rub against the outer drum causing such a sound.

This is commonly the underwire from a bra that has worked loose and lodged in one of the holes inside the inner drum. Have a careful feel round the whole inner surface of the drum to see if you can detect anything protruding. If you find a wire, grip it with a good pair of pliers and try to pull it out, remembering the shape that it probably has so it will need to be coaxed out accordingly. Anything protruding through the holes doesn't belong there!

I have removed three of these from our washing machine!

New GE Profile Dryer makes intermittent loud squeeking or rubbing

Your drum may be out of round. The drum belt on the outside of the drum may be rubbing against the cabinet. When the cabinet heats up, the side walls of the cabinet may be bowing inward, thus making contact with the belt on the drum. This would explain why it is intermittant. When the heater turns off, the cabinet cools and the sides bow back out.

My daewoo nubira 98 makes a catching noise evreytime the rear wheels spin round while im braking from the rear brakes after ive just had new drums cylinders and shoes fitted. is it because its all new and...

Get your brakes checked by whoever done them.

Brakes shouldn't having catching sounds, I would remove the drums and check for any foreign items. New brakes you would sometimes hear a rubbing sound, but nothing sharp and catching as such.

Check: shoes for foreign bits, even small amounts of gravel etc,
Inside of drums for damage.
Shoe springs are all attached and connected to the right places.
Cylinders are not loose.

This should solve your problem.
