Does not read cd or dvs

I have had the same problem with my JVC TH-A85 until today. At the beginning, when it was new there was no problems reading home burned DVD but after a few year it start given pixel, stopping in the middle or at the end of the film, actually I gave up and bought a new Hard disk player/recorder one year ago, however it was stil annoying that JVC did'nt play, well, it worked fine with a purchased DVD, could also play CD music, but not my own DVD. Then I was reading about your problem and it came to my mind that I have bought "CD Laser Lens Cleaner" some years ago, I found it in my garage and placed in the JVC and now it works fine agian.

Could be many things. But it probably needs a new pick-up (laser). You can try cleaning it with rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab.
