Question about Microsoft Office Professional 2007 Full Version for PC

MS Word 2007 will only open in SAFE mode

When I try to open word, it give me the warning: "Word failed to start correctly last time. Starting Word in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start the program..." Then asks if I want to start in Safe mode.

I can start a new document in Safe mode, but if I try to retrieve an existing document, the cursor just spins. I noticed that this happens with Publisher as well. Excel seems to be fine.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled MS Office, but nothing's changed. I've read about the normaldot.... files, but am not sure if this is related or how to go about resolving my problem. Thank you for your help.

No, nothing found even in the hidden files. Problem still exists. Do I have a virus? Thanks again.

    MS Office Professional Plus 2007 + SP1

It seems only Word fails while PowerPoint and Excel works fine.
    Thanks for any suggestion!

I had the same problem. Ran the updater, reinstalled, and still had the problem. Searching for and deleting Normal.dot fixed it immediately. YAAAAAAAAY!

Try opening internet explorer --> Tools --> Windows updates
If you cannot see tools in the menu bar at the top tap the <ALT> key once

Once into updates choose custom and apply all updates for Office or Word 2007

If you still get the error try opening word, click Help --> Detect and repair (it may ask you to put in your Office/Word CD)

Ok, next step is to delete the normal.dot file or at least rename it.

    1. Close all word/office software windows

    2. Open windows Explorer

    3. Search all files including hidden for Normal.dot

    4. right click on any found and rename to old_normal.txt

(the reason for changing the file type is all .dot files are run at startup)

    5. this may give a warning so click yes to rename

    6. Open word and see if the problem is resolved

ok, it must be something else.

I would suggest running spybot search and destroy

In the run box type sfc /scannow

to check all windows files, may require your windows disk

    Also please post:-

    Which Windows?

Make and model of PC plus the chip

Start --> Control Panel --> system

If you want to use premium chat, I know it costs but it may be quicker to solve!!

That sounds as if there is an error in Word software. Try starting in Safe Mode then loading Word.

When do you start MS PowerPoint then office check for problems such as add-ins or file extension that would not start powerpoint. If you find such problem then try to start your MS PowerPoint in safe mode.

If you will be able to start in safe mode then there is a problem with add-ins. So disabling the add-ins can fix the problem.

You can disable the add-ins by following steps:

  1. Click the File tab.

  2. Click Options.

  3. Click Add-Ins.

  4. On the Manage menu, click Disabled Items, and then click Go.

I have a windows vista that had Microsfot office home and student 2007 pre installed. I did open up the trial version and used it for a project. well it has been long expired and every time i save...

You won't lose the data files, but you bring up a good point. I would use Word Pad and try opening a couple of the files. If they open correctly, you'll be safe to uninstall MS Office.

If it doesn't open, try to convert them to a simple text file or a .rtf file in MS Office by opening them and choosing Save As and save them that way.

Problem with sku112.cab

Hi,

It can't be downloaded, it's on the CD. I know - you don't have the CD. You
can try the following *but no guarantees*:

1. Click on start==>run==>type "excel /s" without quotations and click ok.

2. Once Excel is up in safe mode with the error message in front, hold down
ctrl+Alt+Delete keys on your keyboard to bring the task manager up.

3. Click on the processes tab==>look for msiexec.exe (only the one next to
your user name), click on it and end the process.

4. Excel should be running without an error message now==>close Excel in
safe mode==>reopen it one more time in safe mode to check if it is opening
with no error message.

5. Close Excel/s and open Excel normally, it should work fine.

If it does work - don't download trial versions of software that can affect
the software you have but don't have the disks.

Hope i helped.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
