Kenmore propane range/oven tripping GFI

Just out of no where, my oven now trips the GFI. If I reset the GFI and and turn the oven on. Once the propane "ignites" it will trip the GFI about 10 seconds later.

Hi there, this is a propane range/oven. The number on the tag is 362.75206891. The stove is about 11 years old.

I don't think electronic cooktops are supposed to be on a GFI circuit. Let me check and I'll get back with you shortly.

Can you give me your full model number?

My bad, yours is an oven.

I found the Owner Manual, but could not find the Installation Manual. Do you have it, and does it say to hook the oven to a GFI protected power source?

Just because of the way the electronics work in the oven, and the way the electronics work in the GFI, I don't think that they work together. The oven is a permanent appliance, so I don't know of any reason it would need it.

How long have you had this oven installed, and connected to the GFI? Has anything changed, like you washed the oven down and got water inside it. Is a non GFI circuit available nearby where you could wire the oven?

Let me know what you find. It's been awhile since I looked at a new Electrical Code (NEC) book, and even with that, you local ordinances can over ride the NEC.

OK. I can not find anything that says this unit should be on a GFI. It MUST be on a grounded circuit, but not a GFI.

So again, unless you local ordinance requires this unit to be on GFI, and/or there is something I am not seeing about your kitchen setup, then you were fortunate that the unit worked as long as it did.

And so while I didn't fix this problem, I can explain why it happens, and sure would appreciate your rating me a FixYa. And if you have further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Cajun injector electric smoker stopped working

Check for power at your outlet; a tripped GFI or a tripped breaker in your panel box may be the cause if the outlet is dead. If the outlet is good then you know it is the electric smoker.

Sounds like a dead short, you probably need to call the factory. Is it new? Has it always done this?

I've got an amana gas oven range and just had the ignitor replaced. Everything seemed to work great afterwards for about 2 hours but then the breaker tripped. I let the oven cool down before I reset it...

What you want to check or have checked is if the wiring on the new igniter was accidently not properly insulated and some or the wiring is bare and touching metel shorting the breaker each time the oven is turned on.

Oven does not heat after using the self-cleaning system.

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

It sounds like the hi-limit safety thermostat may be tripped, that is the component that typically trips/activates during a self clean on many ranges.

The following will depend on the model number, if you provide one I can be more specific.
If you pull/slide the unit away from the wall and unplug it you can reset the hi-limit. It will be a manual reset type hi-limit and we can get you back up and cooking in no time.

**Unplug the range from the wall first of course...safety first**

Once you remove the panel you will need to look for a switch/thermostat which looks like this...

macmarkus_164.jpg
If you notice there is a small red tab in the center, push it in ( it may or may not "click" ) then before re-installing the rear panel while insuring no wires have inadvertently come off, plug the range in and try it.

That should do it if it is indeed tripped. Let me know how you make out. Good luck.

I'll watch for your reply and if you need anything further I'll be glad to help in any manner I can.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Intermittent tripping of circuit as oven just reaches temp

Sounds like the oven element is cracked and absorbing moisture when the oven cools down thus causing it to trip. Should buy a new element. there are hundreds of suppliers on the internet.

Lights grill and fan work but oven isnt heating up

Hi there,

On our oven, we have to reset the clock before the oven will work. I think it's because of the automatic timer features.

Yours is a slightly different model, but on ours we have to press the two buttons with arrows on, at the same time as turning the clock dial. Once this is done, the oven should work again.

Good luck.

Maytag oven will not light

There is no reset button on range. Do you mean your house breaker is tripped? I would check for bare wires shorting to ground.
Look for evidence of mice, as in droppings. If so they probably chewed on wires.
