Question about Brother CS-80

1 Answer

I was given a brother innovis 4000D.  I was using it for straight stitching today.  The needle got stuck in the down position while sewing velvet plain straight stitch.  I turned it off, had to remove the needle with tweezers.  The post that makes the needle go up and down seems stuck in the down position.  The hand wheel will not turn manually. When I push the automated needle up and down button that post that holds the needle shakes, a safety error message appears and the red stop light comes on.  I have no thread in it now and it continues to do that.  I cannot seem to get the hand wheel to work to move the whole needle post.

Twin needle tension problem

Hi, Tania
Chances are that you're using a universal point twin needle, designed for sewing on woven fabrics. Twin needles also come with a ballpoint which is what you need for knit fabrics
A ballpoint or stretch needle has a rounded tip that will separate the knit fibers as it penetrates the fabric instead of breaking through them. A universal needle may not catch the bobbin thread on both needles when used on knit fabrics; this is necessary for proper stitch formation.

I had the same problem and it was so frustrating! It was happening to me because I wasn't using the right size needle. Go up a couple of needle sizes and see if that helps.

Brother Innovis 4000 D stopped sewing

These machines are known to freeze up in the needle bar crank, even when only a couple of hours old. If it is less than a year old, a Brother certified service center will fix it under warranty.
