Question about HP Compaq Presario CQ50-211NR Notebook
When we start the notebook up it turns on the beginning "compaq" screen and then stops. I've tried pushing f10 or f2 and it notes at the bottom left of the screen that I've hit the button, but it doesn't do anything. The notebook is a compaq presario cq50
Called HP after doing all troubleshooting steps described in their product page. Technician had me re-do some of those steps (reseating memory modules, removing and reseating hard drive, removing battery and power adapter and pressin power button for 40 secs.) and they ended up asking me to send the computer back to them for a Motherboard replacement. I had a similar case whith an older presario computer and they did the same thing. Researched and found out that the motherboard goes bad due to thermal issues. (I kindda hoped they would solve that on future models but apparently the problem is still there).

F10 is the correct key to press to get into BIOS for Compaq, but there is nothing in BIOS that can help your computer boot all the way up. Instead press F8, this will get you into Safe Mode. Then do a "restore" it will restore your system to an earlier date before you were having problems. Here's how you do it:
Start the computer and press F8. Safe Mode.
Then allow it go into Windows. Then click on start>programs>accessories>system tools>System Restore. It will ask you for a restore point date, just make sure it is before you started having problems. This should work..let me know if you have any questions.

Take out the hard drive. Then turn the notebook back on and see if it goes past the Compaq screen. If it does then you know your hard drive is bad and it would have to be replaced. It could be shorting out the motherboard.
