Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV330 Digital Camcorder

Image and sound problems at playback

This camcorder started having major problems. It was refusing to eject tapes, it was getting several error codes. All those problems have been resolved and now that they are fixed, there are problems with the playback. When I put in an old recorded tape or a brand new tape with new recording, during playback I get 5 gray bars on the left side of the screen (or my tv when I hook it up to that) and sound distortion. It's not even distortion but mostly no sound except every second or so there is a tiny bit of sound that comes through.

Re: image and sound problems at playback

Your tape guides are out of calibration on all your pre - recorded tapes , or they are out of adjustment ( maybe even loose ) now ; - - put your camcorder close , next to your ear ? and . . . listen ! to a new tape in play mode - if you hear a fluttering sound like a deck of cards being shuffled softly , the camera is damaging all your tapes and needs alignment ;

Tape mechanism problems are quite complicated but they can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Gr-dvl-520u trying to record or playback tape it goes into safeguard mode within 5 seconds. alternatly pressing play and still every 3 seconds advanced the playback without it going into safeguard mod

According to,

"JVC notes that you are also given a malfunction code when the unit is placed into safeguard. If it displays code 01, 02, or 06 you should remove
the battery and powersupply and wait for a while. Code 03 and 04 indicate that you should eject and reinsert the tape.

If neither of these solutions work, your only alternative is to bring it to a shop or send it to JVC for diagnosis or repair. Unfortunately, there is no other way to clear the condition."

If you are getting E03 or E04 errors on every tape you try, it sounds like a servicing is required.

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.

Cannot playback hi8 ccd trv107e pal

Dirty video head! Playback newly opened blank tape for five minutes, after that eject, reinsert, playback then eject again five times, these will serve as your video head cleaner, never use "video head cleaning cassette tape" for it will only damage your camera. Most camera has built in video head cleaner installed inside and activates only when you insert, initial play/rec, and ejects a tape. If the problem is still there you need pro fix then.[:0)

Constant Eject Tape iluminated on screen.

Are there any error codes listed? Usually when a camcorder constantly ejects the tape it is because of a fault being present, the most likely one is moisture. Leave unit in a dry environment for a day with the cassette door open then try it. If you are sure the unit does not have moisture in it you probably have a bad moisture sensor. They go bad frequently. It is the small square device usually located on the deck base near the video drum and sometimes on the base of the drum. I do not know if you are capable of replacing this unit. If not you will need to find a reputable repair facility to get an estimate. Keep in mind from the description you gave of the problem it could be about anything. This is just the most common problem for this symptom. Several websites which offer free estimates are: or or Good luck.

Playback & Ejection Problem

Hi, You usually get an EJECT TAPE when the camcorder has found an internal problem and either the videocassette or the camera itself has developed a problem. In you case, it looks like you tape has a problem. Daniel
