Re: water dispenser not working but ice maker works
It could be the water valve located on the back, lower left corner of the freezer. On the outside. It's fairley easy to test. Just swap your water lines around. If you get water from the door then you need a knew water valve. If not then it could be the circut board in the dispenser. You will have to slide the face off of the dispenser. Hope this helps.

First thing to check is if the water filter is out of date, this will cause you not to get any water to the ice maker or the dispenser. Another thing to do is to get behind the machine and with someone pushing the dispenser see if the water valve vibrates. If it does and there is no water and the filter is good either the valve is bad or the resevoir inside the refrigerator is frozen and not letting water come through, but the last is unlikely due to the ice maker water supply does not go through the resevoir. The filter is the first place I would start with.
There are 2 solenoids, one controls the water dispenser the other controls the ice maker water supply. Follow the tubing down the back of the refrigerator to find the ice maker solenoid. If the line is frozen between the back of the refrigerator and the ice maker it won't make ice either. If the line is frozen you need to check to see if the solenoid is leaking, this allows a trickle of water to continously flow through the lina and freeze.
It could be the switch. It also could be the resevoir is frozen behind the crispers. It could be the water valve has a bad coil. It could be a plugged filter if you have one in the line. Was the frig recently extra cold just before the problem? Check the resevoir first. Eric
I have a whirlpool side by side. water and ice in front. ice working and water not. the hose is not frozen and it is not humming when you push the water dispenser. It would give us water and quit but now we have nothing.
Hi: A lot of reverse osmosis systems don't supply enough water pressure to the ice maker to fill. Contact your manufactrue of your reverse osmosis system and see if it works with icemakers. I thind usually the require at least 20-30psi. Or hook your refrigerator to city pressure to see if it works. Also I don't know if you have just an ice maker or a water dispensing side by side, or your water quality. If you just have an icemaker, most chlorine will evaporate before the ice is frozen, any odors in the water will still be there. Good Luck, Jeff
Hi. A good way to check the ice maker water solenoid valve is to swith the wire lead from the dispenser water solenoid valve to the ice maker water solenoid valve. Now push the water dispenser lever and water should come out your ice maker fill tube. If not, either the fill tube is frozen or the ice maker water solenoid valve is bad. Take the 1/4 inch tube that runs up the back of your freezer off at the ice maker water solenoid valve and blow thru it. If you can't, the tube is frozen. If you can, the valve is bad. Good luck, Mack
