Question about Samsung LE40R74BDX 40 in. LCD Television
I have had my tv for just over 3 yrs now. When i turn the tv on it takes several minutes to come on. There is clicking sounds when it is trying to switch itself on. Any suggestions would be greatfully received.

Most likely it has some bad capacitors in the power supply. Flat--panel sets are VERY hard on capacitors, due to the fact that the "rising heat' from the set "cooks" the caps and they fail VERY early.

I would check out the power supply module for bad caps with bulging tops. Check DC voltages at the output connectors, you should have 5, 12, 24V.

Testimonial: "This seems to be a common fault on these tv's. I probably wont attempt to fix myself even though the warranty has ran out. Thanx "
A common fault with this model is bad capacitors in the power supply, Remove the back from your tv and look at the power supply for bulged / swollon capacitors on top, they may even leak a brown like substance and should have a value of around 1000uf 10v
Change these where possible with the same uf but higher voltage lets say 1000uf 25/35v
Hope this helps

SOURCE: My P42 keeps turning itself
Disconnect the power supply for few minutes, say 30 minutes and then turn ON the TV.This would reset the TV. If you still see the same problem, it confirms a hardware failure.
As you could hear a clicking noise, it is more suggestive of a power supply problem. This a common problem on most of the Vizio's TV. You need to open the TV. Locate the power supply board. You would be able to find blown / bulged / leaked IC's. Take them out and re-solder the new one. ( you could get the caps from radio shack or even from fry's ).
I am pretty sure that it would solve the problem. If the problem still persists, revert and we could troubleshoot further.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
