Would you like to unlock your Sony Playstation 2 DVD Player to Region Free?
There is more than one model of PS2, and more than one PS2 DVD player module. For some models or modules, only a Messiah 2 or Magic 2 chip installation will make them region free. However, many can be made region free, for free.
Follow these steps to unlock your Sony Playstation 2 DVD Player:
Press and hold CIRCLE, RIGHT, L1
Press and hold L3 and push the stick in hard
Boot into the PS2 browser without a CD/DVD in the tray
Press CIRCLE and R1 on the DVD
Hold RIGHT until a menu appears
Press CIRCLE and R1 again
Load the DVD into the PS2
At the browser screen, select the CD icon the press and hold SQUARE then CIRCLE until the DVD menu appears, holding both buttons all of the time
Either select the PLAY icon or the MOVIE START icon
Your Sony Playstation 2 DVD Player is now Region Free.
Yes, it can play DVD movies as well as Music CD'S and CD-R's music. You dont have to buy another machine. One tip thou when using it as a DVD plyr you might put it where ventilation can get to it - due to the overheating problem PS2 has. I use mine all the time, and I put a fan next to it, so I can play longer and watch movies longer. I hope this helps. Good Luck.
Mine did the same thing "ps2 Glitch" The dvd player goes bad in them and the system will never again play dvd's just game's "get worn out" is what the company told me. I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE WARRENTY Fustrating But I have 2 that only play game's and one that still is holding out. SRY time to buy another one
It should play dvd's (provided it is the right reigon player for the type of DvD that yopu are trying to play), as well, but if it has stopped playing dvd then the problem may well be the laser, as there are 2 components to ps2 lasers, a dvd laser and a cd laser the dvd laser is much more sensitive and will be the first part of the laser to fail.
You could try cleaning the laser but it is much more likely that the laser will have to be replaced soon.
Your PS2 laser is wearing out. When the laser starts to go, first games will skip... then eventually the PS2 will stop reading DVDs altogether. If you keep using it to read CDs, it will eventually stop reading those too and the laser will die altogether. Here's a website that will help you identify your PS2 model, show you how to replace the laser, and they sell parts and do repairs too http://store.richspsxparts.com/slps2direerl.html

What it is, is from it playing on any burnt movies so now it won't play factory burnt discs only home-made burnt discs, try the movie on a home-made burnt disc. If nothing you can get a DVD player for like 20 bucks at wal-mart.
