Hope that his helps:

Here is how I was finally able to get my phone to work.

When the battery was very low, the phone would no longer activate the radio function. I found that when the radio was not trying to connect to the network, I could enter my password and adjust my network settings.

I thought the issue may have had to do with the "data services" function so I diasbled this function.... and the phone worked with this function off (after a light recharge).
Just to confirm I had found the cause of the lock-up, I enabled the data services again and the phone immediately locked again.

Here's how I was able to work around it.

Go to the "manage connections" icon and open it up. Select "mobile network options" and the top selection should be to turn the "data services" fuction on or off. What I found was that once this was off, the phone worked just fine but obviously all access to e-mail and other web-services was shut down. At least I had my phone......

If you are not able to get to the data services area because the phone keeps locking up at the "error code 348" screen (grey screen of death), then you can try this also if you have your security on the phone set to allow phone calls while its still locked.

Hit the "R" button to reset the blackberry or if this doesn't work, remove and reinsert the battery and it will reset. Note, you may have to use the "on" button to get the phone to turn back on after removing and reinstalling the battery. As the phone is going through the process of starting back up, and before it goes back to the error code 348 screen, you can do the following....
At least this worked on my unit.

At the Verizon screen which was the last screen to appear before the phone would go back into error mode, I was able to select the option to "place call".
I only had about 10 seconds to do this and get a call going before the phone would lock up again so choose a number and call it quickly....
For some unknown reason, the phone will not lock up at the "error code 348 screen" while a call is in progress. So I called the office and then hit the "select" button (one with all the little dots on it next to the mouse ball) and chose the option to "unlock" the phone. Once unlocked I could get to the "manage connections" icon as noted above and choose to shut down the "data services" function again.

Sorry for the long-winded explanation.
This was a major headache for me when I arrived in Puerto Rico and could not access any numbers on my phone because it kept going back to the error code screen every time I reset it. When I figured out that it was simply a limitation or issue with the data services function and I could use the phone and access my call logs, contacts list, etc., even without e-mail this was a great success.

Hope you find this useful.

As a side note, if you don't have your phone set to "allow calls when locked" in the security section of your settings in the options section.

If all else fails, you can get to area where you can unlock your phone if it sits long enought at the error code 348 screen. The unit will get to a point where the battery is too low to allow calls but you can still unlock it and maniupulate the settings. If the phone is totally dead, just charge it for a few minutes and adjust the settings before it charges enough to try to reconnect to the network.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

I got same Error 547 and looks like forever did everything read every posting about, - could not bring back to life

JVM Errors are raised by the BlackBerry Device Software during various activities to make the BlackBerry smartphone user aware of a failure in which the BlackBerry smartphone could not safely recover normal operation. Although JVM errors may occur as a result of software related issues only, the following JVM errors are known to result due to interactions with the BlackBerry smartphone hardware.
To resolve this issue, contact your wireless service provider if you are encountering the above JVM errors.

Blackberry jvm error

The very same thing happened to my Blackberry Curve. The system has been completely wiped-out. The service is still there but you need to download the software to your phone again. You can fix it if you have access to the internet without the CD. Go to then click on Software, then click on Device Software and follow the instructions from there( your phone must be connected to the computer while doing this with the USB cord) This will reload the software back on to your blackberry. Also, beware, you will lose all of your contacts that you had previously stored in your phone. I am so sorry that you are experiencing this on your vacation. Hope this helps.

Cannot turn on my 8703 Blackberry. Keep getting

A post from the web:

Today I woke up to my Blackberry 8703 sitting with a white screen saying JVM 523 error reset. This was not a good start to the day. I fought with this error across my laptop and the internet for hours today and hope to save you hours trying to fix this.
One of the big problems with the newer Blackberry units is that there is no reset button. Everytime I tried to reset the damn thing I would watch as it would boot up and just as I was about to put in the password - flash - the JVM 523 error would come back.
So now that I have fixed it I will tell you how to get your blackberry up and running again. first of all know that you will lose all the data on the blackberry so if you have no backup, sorry, you will now have a clean slate to work with. Fortunatly I am on a BES server so this is not a big deal to me. OK, now that you know that your data is gone….letting it sink in there….you will be able to rescue your connectivity to the world in two steps with two pieces of data. OK here goes…
1. Download the latest Blackberry Handheld device software. I did a Google search for 8703e handheld device software bell (I use a Bell as my service provider) and then do the install. This will just install to your hard drive which is fine.
2. Download the file. I decided to host it here in case I have this problem again. extract the javaloader.exe file to the root of your c: drive.
3. Now that you have this javaloader thingy it is time to run it and wipe your blackberry. Open a command prompt and go to the root of C: and run the javaloader with the following command javaloader -usb wipe and hit enter. You will be prompted by the javaloader for your password and then after the 10 second or so wipe you can reboot your Blackberry and it will come up with a blank screen.
4. Run your Blackberry Desktop software and do an application install selecting the core applications and now after a short time of loading you should get to reboot the Blackberry and you will be back in business.
Hope this helps but if not try going over to here. Where lots of poeple are fighting the same fight and may have more help that you may need.

Jvm 102 error

The problem is a java related problem. Your only option is to reinstall the OS after wipeing the handheld clean. Here is a little step by step for you.

1) Get javaloader (can be found on
2) Get the latest Blackberry OS from RIM which you can get HERE
3) Run the Blackberry OS installer you just downloaded.
4) Shutdown Blackberry Desktop Manager on your PC.
5) Open a command prompt window.
6) Change to the folder where the javaloader program is on your computer (If you put javaloader in C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32, then you do not need to change folders in the comand prompt window.)
7) Execute the command "javaloader -usb wipe" (no quotes), and wait for the handheld to reboot with error code 507
8) Disconect the handheld from the PC, restart Blackberry desktop manager, and reconect the blackberry to your pc.
9) You will be prompted to "upgrade the OS on the handheld" follow the prompts, and when you BB reboots, it will be reloaded with the factory defualts.
10) Login to, and resend your service books.
11) Restore your BB applications, by reinstalling, or redownloading them.

I hope this helps, if it does please rate accordingly, Thanks, David
