Question about Garmin StreetPilot C330 GPS Receiver

2 Answers

Touch screen selection shifts to item in row below

This is a recurring problem that usually occurs when the unit is first turned on. Until the problem goes away, it is necessary to select the item above the one I want to select in order to get the correct one. When the selected item is at the top of the screen, it is not possible to access the one I want until the problem goes away. Using a pointed instrument instead of a finger for touching has no affect. Needless to say, this is a very frustrating problem.

I have this problem when the unit sits in a hot car. I hold the screen to the the a/c vent and when the screen cools off, the touch screen is back to normal.

This is a very common problem with touch screens. Hit the menus to find the GPS Nav's "recalibration tool," or just complain to the manufacturer. It is a hardware problem, so aside from recalibrating it there isnt much you can do yourself... probelm solved! good luck!

    PROBABLE CAUSES:
    1. The control panel adjustment is incorrect. This adjustment will shift the position of the touch sensor of the LCD unit. Perform the following steps:
    a. Hold the Help key and turn power ON.
    b. Touch selection #10 (control panel adjustment) on the touchscreen to display the control panel adjustment screen. Note: If the touchscreen is so far out of adjustment that there is no response when touching #10, the control panel adjustment can be accessed (at this point) by touching any numeric key on the 10-key pad.
Two + (plus signs) should be visible on the screen.
    c. Touch the + at the upper right lightly with a touch pen (something with a round tip which is made of resin is recommended as a touchpen). Check the coordinates displayed in the top line at the top of the screen.
    d. Ensure the X coordinate and the Y coordinate displayed in the message area fall within the standard values. The acceptable values are on the second line.
    e. If the values are not within the acceptable parameters, repeat Step 3 until the values are acceptable.
    f. Touch the + at the lower left lightly with a touch pen (something with a round tip which is made of resin is recommended as a touch pen). Repeat the process used for the upper right coordinate until acceptable values are achieved.
    g. As verification of a correct adjustment, touch the CHECK keys at the upper left and lower right corners. You should hear a beep tone for each one. If a beep tone is not heard, repeat the adjustment.
    h. Turn the machine OFF to store the adjustment. Turn the machine ON normally and check operation of the touch screen.

NOTE: Refer to the Testing section in this document for instructions on performing the tests.
    1. Turn the printer off, and then turn the printer on. The grinding or squeaking noise should not occur while the printer is initializing.
    2. Perform a paper path test. The grinding or squeaking noise should not occur because the carriage should not be moving.
    3. Perform a self-test to localize the noise.
    4. Check the printer for obstructions by lifting the top cover and making sure nothing is blocking the carriage movement.
    5. Check the paper path by following the instructions below:
      1. Remove all media from Trays 1, 2, and 3.
      2. Pull out any visible stuck paper.
      3. Lift the top cover, and pull out any jammed paper.
      4. If you are unable to free the jammed paper, pull out the handle of the paper knob, pull the knob away from the printer, and rotate it to remove the paper.
      5. Lower the rear access door by lifting up on the two rear door latches.
      6. Remove the back panel by pushing the two catches inward.
      7. Pull out any paper that may be stuck inside.
    6. Wipe down the milky white strip (see Figure 1) that the front of the carriage glides on with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

      Performing a paper path test
      1. Press the MENU button on the printer control panel until Diagnostics Menu is selected.
      2. Press ITEM until Perform Tray x Paper Path Test is selected.
      3. Press SELECT to perform the test.
NOTE: The paper path test will terminate only when the paper in the tray being tested runs out or the printer is turned off.
      Performing the stand-alone self-test
      1. Press the MENU button on the printer control panel until Self Test Menu is selected.
      2. Press ITEM until Print Menu Map is selected.
