Does this happen with all sounds or just that one song. DO you hear any sounds when winXP starts up or shuts down? IF so it may be that the song you are trying to play has moved or been deleted.

Driver problem in compaq presario c700 laptop

Try connecting the headphone properly.
Check if its properly inserted.
Go for windows update............... and then check if the problem is gone.
If all the above doesnot works I think there is a connection between the metals inside your headphone portal, ans as soon as you insert the jack it gets connected and you can hear sounds from both the sources.
Thank You.

I can not play audio files

In the windows media player go to > now playing - more options - devices - speakers then changed the audio device to use your soundcard.

Also, uninstall any other players, they usually interfere with each other.
