Hi the reason for double image is that due to poor quality of ur picture tube...its better to replace a new picture tube or if any of the Ics have got damaged u have to replace that ICs.. this double imaging may lead to bigger problems like image fading later and then u will not be able to view any picture in ur tv..So its better to go for a picture tube replacement or capacitor replacement...

thank u

As indicated by others, this is a convergence problem. If you can solder and you feel comfortable working inside the set, you can fix this yourself. Please note that there are potentially dangerous high voltages present even when the set is unplugged.

First locate the convergence ICs. These are large black ICs attached to a heatsink and will be marked STK392-110. Resolder the pins on these ICs first. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. Please note that there may be additional parts that require replacement. Once the above steps are completed, update this with the results. We will then address the additional parts if required.

Thanks,
Dan

Welcome to Fixya! It turns out that this is a known problem for these sets. The recommended "fix" is to replace the convergence board at a cost of $375. I wouldn't recommend that kind of investment at this point. It is possible that the convergence ICs are starting to fail and that can show up in this manner as well. If you are to invest in this at all, I would try resoldering the entire convergence board first. If that does not resolve the problem, replace the convergence ICs (STK392-110 I think) and report the results here. Other than that, you are best to invest the $375 into a newer set. Please Rate my Solution, I need all the Help that I can Get! Thanks!

I have a 64 inch hdtv pioneer projection monitor sd-643hd5 and it won't fit into my basement. What can I do? Thank You In Advance, Bruce Morash

Ha Ha, I had the exact problem. I think mine is the same model of TV as well, I have a 64" Pioneer made in 2003. So my TV would hit the slanted ceiling above my stairs as I tried to move it down. I first took off the wheels of the TV and this helped but it was not quite enough. So since the bottom of the TV is flat with exception of the side boards and the front trim. I removed the front trim temporarily and cut off the side boards with a circular saw till even with the flat bottom. This gave me 2.5" more clearance which was enough to fit the TV downstairs. Hint if you scribe the cut line with a utility knife it will reduce chipping.

Just fixed the convergence chip problem.$534.00. Now 720p and 1080 1 signals are showing double images and colors. Also the componentinput #2 is showing double images on any format

many of these sets need the convergence adjusted in the 480 and the 1080 separate-- the set most likely if looks good in 480 needs to be adjusted with the original remote in the 1080 mode.

Whoever charged you 534 got you---if you did it yourself you paid way too much--with 1080 signal--enter convergence mode and try to adjust in customer menu--if 480 is ok---it needs to be adjusted in the hd mode.
