Question about Electrolux Guardian Bagged Canister Vacuum

1 Answer

Little to no suction even with new bag, rug head spits dirt out

I get very little suction even with a new bag on my Guardian model. When I try to use the rug/carpet head, it sucks up the dirt and then spits it back out. I've had the model for about 8 years - is this common? do I just replace the head attachment or do I need to buy a new vacuum altogether? I love this machine - it's better than pretty much anything out there and I paid a hefty price for it and don't want to have to get rid of it.

No suction from canister on electrolux guardian model c154e. green light on switch is on

Have you remove the hose and checked the suction at the intake of the vacuum? If the motor is running there will be suction.
If there's suction here, attach the hose to the vacuum, turn it on, and check the end of the hose for suction. If there is none or very little, there's a clog or bad leak in the hose. The easiest way to check for a clog is to drop a coin in one end, lift that end up allowing the coin to drop through to the other end and out. If it drops through, the hose is clear. If not, the easiest way to clear it is to plug the hose in to the exhaust port of the vacuum, place the other end into a large garbage bag or point it outside, and turn on the vacuum. This will usually clear a blockage.
Leaks that are severe enough to result in no suction will be readily apparent as tears, cracks, or cuts in the hose. A crushed hose will also result in the loss of suction.
If suction is fine at the end of the hose, do a visual check of the wands. It's unusual for them to be blocked, but not impossible.
Check the power nozzle above and behind the brush and where it attaches to the wand. The elbow can catch long objects resulting in a blockage.
If there don't appear to be any problems with the above mentioned items, you need to take the vacuum, with attachments, to a repair shop to have it checked. It may need a new motor, but that would be due to worn out or broken fans, and that is unlikely with Electrolux vacuum motors years older than that.

How do you make it blow air out? trying to make air blow out,i have the hose that has controls on it. will work to **** up but when i put it to blow out will not come on.

The Guardian Canister vacuums have a blow port under the filter. So you need to remove the filter (on the Guardian Ultra, you have to open the top of the vacuum) by lifting it up the forward. Then disconnect the hose from the normal suction end of the unit and plug it into the blower port. Now turn on the vacuum. If the hose is clogged, position the other end of the hose at the suction port.

For the Guardian canister, select the high, medium or low force for the motor. Then blow the dust out from under the furniture or use to fill an inflatable. Turn off the vacuum and replace the hose in the usual position and replace the filter when done.

If you are still unable to get the unit to blow out when connected to the exhaust port after attempting to clear the hose, separate the hose, wand and handle. Look down the hose for any object that might be creating a one-way valve. Remove the foreign object.Do the same with the other parts of the unit. Also replace the vacuum bag. If the bag is sufficiently full, the airflow will be reduced through the bag to the exhaust and cause the problem you describe.

The Electrolux Guardian Canister Vacuums are part of the Aerus line. The manuals for the vacuums are available here: http://www.aerusvacuums.com/support/manuals/index.cfm . The Guardian Ultra is in the current model section. The Guardian is listed in the Older Model drop-down menu.

I hope this helps.

(many canister vacuums have a blower mode when you connect the hose to the exhaust (after the bag) instead of the suction side of the unit.)

My Electrolux guardian C135 vac has lost suction. replacing the bag does nothing. removing the HEPA filter has no effect - what do you suggest? Will a replacement HEPA filter make any significant...

No you have a clog in the hose, wand or at the power head. Remove the hose wand and power head from the the vacuum. Turn on the vacuum, put the palm of your hand over the hole in front, you should feel plunty of suction. Then replace just the hose and put the palm of your hand over the end of the hose. If you do not have suction the clog is in the hose. You can try putting the hose on the blower port to blow out the clog or use the wire from a coat hanger. If you have suction, then add just the wand and repeat. If you have suction, then the clog is in the neck of power head, you will have to use a coat hanger to clear it.

Vacuum not picking up dirt

The neck in your power head is likely clogged. Disconnect from the wand and look inside. Also check the wand.Since you have suction on the bare floor the hose is likely not blocked.

Belt needs fixed after sucking up a soft rug.

if its a canister model there probably is no belt just suction.open the canister and if it has a bag feel the bag ,if it feels kind of hard then the bag is full.take the tool off the end of the hose and turn it on to see if you have suction if you do then the tool is blocked up.take it to the sink and run some warm water through it and maybe use a little brush to clear out the dirt.full bag will cause your vacuum not to have suction or not as much as it should

No suction

Up inside the bottom of the vacuum there is a hole where the dirt goes in to get to the bag. That's where the clog probably is.

I am the Sales Coordinator with Electrolux, and personally it sounds to me like your machine could use a service check. Your local Aerus/ Electrolux office should be able to help you out with that no problem. If you are having trouble reaching them feel free to call my office (570)326-1731 and ask for Liz. I hope this is able to help you out.
