Question about Microwave Ovens

Open Question

Door latch broken I have the same door latch problem with my Panasonic Microwave NN-SD697S. In use since June 2007 (i.e., 19 months). The problem this morning: when you push on the door latch button, it pushes in (without the normal resistance), but the door won't open. Food stuck inside. In the short term, how do I get the door open to retrieve my food? Force it? Have not tried to disassemble. Don't know where to begin. Can't find a schematic on the web. Please help. lgp42@san.rr.com

Ended up taking the microwave back to Costco where they granted me a full refund. I had my original sales receipt. Costco is outstanding! Got the door to open (in order to retrieve my food) using a putty knife inserted from the bottom of the door, upward to trip the locking mechanism (It helped that I could go see the same model in the store). Bought the exact same microwave to replace the one I returned. Except for this door latch problem, this really does seem to be the best, most powerful (1,300 watts), microwave on the market. Especially fo rthe $99.99 plus sales tax which I paid.

You have a failed membrane keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

The best place to order Panasonic parts is Tritronics. You can also call them at 866-779-5835.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your model number) for more information & help.

HI, this will require the skilled hands of a qualified Panasonic tech. The damaged part here is the Magnetron assembly. this is a very sensitive part that creates radiation and the heating process as well. you will need to replace this device asap if possible...

SOURCE: I have a Panasonic Model

Hello,To get the door open and salvage your dinner, take a long thin blade ( I used a frosting spreader) and insert from the bottom between the door and the oven frame on the side with the latches (usually next to the control panel). You may have to pry the bottom of the door open just a bit. The object is to push up the lower door latch (which is connected to the upper door latch) and manually open the door. You may have to try a few times but this worked perfectly for me and saved dinner. Obviously the door latch needs to be repaired but this solves the immediate problem of dinner being held hostage by a recalcitrant microwave.
wish you good luck,
take care.

There should be tension from the spring that pulls the door hook down. If there is no tension, the anchor for the spring has broken off and the outer door frame must be replaced.

PANASONIC Microwave Inverter #NN-SD697S. Everything works except the START button. Works sometimes, and not other times. Checked outlet, all was good.

This is either the door sensing switch (most likely) or a bad membrane switch [start switch] (that's what Panasonic calls it) on the touch pad. The contacts on the door sensing switch can be slightly contaminated and not read "zero ohms" to the control PCB. The control board thinks that the door is open and it will not allow the cook cycle to start.

I have a Panasonic microwave. It is Model NN-T774SF. It has an inverter. The latch on the door will not close. Is it worth the cost of repair?

This is usually a pretty simple fix.

The spring has probably become disconnected from the door latch head assembly or inner door panel.

If so, you can either order a replacement for the broken part, or install a small screw into the broken part, reinforce it with epoxy, and then reassemble everything.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the parts involved.

Or you can watch a
YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

Yes, to take down the face you must have the unit fully accessible - the bolts are accessible only from the rear.

Door spring latch broken - how to repair

Inside side of door there are screws that hold glass like a sandwich between outside side and inside side of the door. They are usualy fastened with screws. You have to unscrew and take a part to remove broken latch to replace it with new part.

NN-T774 INVERTER STOPPED WORKING AFTER 4 WEEKS

Check to make sure one of the plastic hooks on the door was not broken off. If both door hook latches are functional then the most likely cause of your problem is one of the latch switches located behind the control panel. These switches will fail if the oven user opens the door frequently BEFORE the cook cycle ends. Always push STOP/RESET before opening any microwave oven door.

Door will not latch

The door switch mechanism is broken. Microwave doors have a special arraingement of double switches to ensure it is not open during cooking. Because everything is made from plastic nowadays, stuff like this breaks easily. The switches are commona nd cheap but the mounting parts may not be.
