Question about Astar LTV-3201 32 in. LCD Television

1 Answer

Eratic behavior I posted about this in another question, but I've still gotten no response. It's not the remote, since it does it whether the remote's around or not. My TV acts like there's a bug in it that's playing with the buttons on the front. Recently, about 2 weeks after it initially started messing up, it's gotten a lot worse. It's now changing channels every couple minutes, changing to channels 1, 2, 8, and 10. It doesn't change to 0 (yet). I also see the volume bar pop up a lot, as well as "Invalid Input" in the corner. I did notice the remote seems to be working badly from far away but perfectly right in front of the TV, but I don't have florescent lights in this room, and I've had florescent lights in the other rooms of the house for a lot longer than this issue has been going on. We recently replaced a couple bulbs in a couple rooms near this one in the house, but as I said, this was a couple weeks ago and this issue just happened. I don't think it has anything to do with the remote, and the problem is solely the TV itself. I really doubt there's someone with another remote messing with my TV in some other house, but if this is the case is there a way for me to stop that? I've heard that Astar doesn't exist anymore so I can't get it fixed or anything since they don't manufacture new parts. Please help.

It's been about 2 weeks since the problems started and now my TV won't even turn on. The red power light is on to say it's plugged in, and when I press power it goes green, then goes red again a couple seconds after. Do I need a new TV?

Check the remote control for its infra-red emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check by pressing all the buttons on it; and see whether all of it generates infrared signal while pressing. Since the set is only 4 months old, it should still be under warranty. DO NOT open up the set as that will void the warranty. Call for warranty service and indicate that this is an intermittant problem. If you can report any pattern about when this behavior occurs, that info will be helpful in resolving the problem.

Keep us posted.

No response from remote

Check whether the remote control is working properly or not by using remote checker. Even if it is the universal remote control you have to set the code for the particular model. Otherwise it will not work.

TV comes on and goes off by itself

In order to determine whether it is the TV itself or something in the room that is causing the problem, place an object in front of the infrared eye on the TV. This is usually a transparent red plastic window on the front of the TV somewhere. Verify that it is covered by trying (and hopefully failing) to use the remote. If the TV continues to turn itself on and off, then it is the TVs internal circuitry. If the behavior stops, then it is something in the room. One of the more surprising causes for behavior like this is sunlight hitting rotating ceiling fans -- the light reflects off the fan at just the right frequency to fool the TV. I mention this so you don't limit yourself to only thinking that it must be either the TV or the remote.
