Dell laptop latitude d520 wont bootup ,Disk error occured When I turn it on, it comes to a screen that says Dell in the middle, with F2 for setup or F12 for boot up. If I don't hit either button, the screen goes away after about 5 seconds and then says "Disk error occured, hit ctrl + alt + delete to restart."

I have a dell desktop computer, windows 98 and it is coming up in bios mode and tells me to push f1 to reboot, or f2 to setup, and i pushed f2 and still won't boot back up? How do I setup in Bios mode?

The --timing-- of when you press F2 is critical. And it also takes a bit of luck.. :) Assuming your F2 button is functional (Check for dust/dirt under it) start pressing your F2 button repeatedly just as soon as you see the first message on the screen, but BEFORE Windows starts to come up. I've been repairing Dells for many years and still it sometimes takes me 2-3 tries to get F2 at that "just right" moment.

Note: if you press F2 too many times, each press results in a beep. That means the keyboard buffer is full, and no further presses will matter, so if its not up by that point, give up and try again.

This was the question I posted a hour or so ago: I am trying to use drivescrubber on a dell laptop and after the initial drivescrubber screen goes by I get a 'remove diskette in drive A: followed by...

Here are two things to check. If it is a Dell Laptop, most likely the F2 key will get you into set up before any OS loads. If it is not F2, just watch the screen right after you power the device on, you will see insturctions that say "Press F(something) to enter setup".

Once in set up, scroll down to the "Drives" section. Highlight the floppy drive and make sure that it is set to "off". Regardless of the fact that the laptop has no physical floppy drive, chance are there is still an option under set up. It may be set to something like "internal". Dell actually uses an "internal" floppy setting when imaging their machines.

If you are using Drive Scrubber from a CD, which I presume you are, you can also check the boot order while in setup. Once you highlight it, you will be able to see the order the computer uses to try and boot from. I would move the CD drive up to the top and you should boot from the disk before it even tries anything else.

Stop:0x0000007B tried to boot in all modes..we go to blue screen with stop: cannot get a command prompt either

Issue : Blue screen with Error0x0000007B
Solution
I recognize the importance of resolving this issue and I look forward in providing you with the necessary assistance you need.

The above error comes if the boot volume is corrupted and cannot be initiated by Windows XP. or You are installing Windows XP on a mirrored boot partition that was created by Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

To completely resolve your issue i think you have to reinstall the OS.
Have to format the Hard drive

requirement
the OS - XP Home / Premium Installation CD

Disk formatting is the initial part of the process for preparing a hard disk or other storage medium for its first use. The disk formatting includes setting up an empty file system. A disk formatting may setup multiple file systems by formatting partitions for each file system.

My Dell laptop won't turn on

as long as you seem to have the installation setup disc.. put the CD into the drive and power up the system, IF you have your pc set to boot from cd it should give you the option to Repair or Start a fresh install,, if you have no issues with losing everything then do the full fresh install but hopefully the repair function will kick in when you boot from the cd
If this doesn't work then try pressing the F11 key while the system is starting and hold it until the restore or repair screen comes up

Dell laptop latitude x300 won't boot up

Your laptop hard drive is probably damaged from the fall. The reason why diagnostic test after memory fails is that it’s trying to load from the “Diagnostic Partition” which is located on your hard disk drive. You could try to remove and reseat the hard disk drive and see if that works, otherwise you’ll have to take the drive to a local computer repair shop to see if they can retrieve any data.

Nothing is working! I need help

Hello,

You haven't received a response from Whisperwolf because our email notification system is down right now.

When you start your system and before your Dell screen shows, Press either the F2 or F10 screen. This should get you a System Bios setup screen. In this screen, see if there is an entry for your Hard drive and CDROM drive.

If you can get that far comment back and I'll check back here until our email system is working again. The fact that your computer is not responding to your CDROM is not a very good sign and your computer may have been starting to fail with the first of errors you received and is now at complete risk.

Regards,
Worldvet

Screen saver problems boot problems

ok the disk check can be turned off in the bios setup
when you turn it it it says something to the effect like
"Press Del to enter setup"

what ever key it ask you to press press it..

in the setup change the first bioot device to HD0 or hard drive
Change the Floppy seek to off..

as per the screen saver,,
Try changing the screen saver to another one
If that fails turn the screen saver off

If that fails try a system restore to a date that this problem was not occuring..

IF THAT AS WELL FAILS THEN IT COULD BE HARDWARE RELATED

eighter memory or processor..
