First of all ,remove what you put into it and install the original parts back into it. Now see if it still heats up.If it does what is it thats heating up? Check it out,maybe install a different transistor with higher voltage to keep heat down.Could be a transformer in there heating up .Do the logical first then procede to the next step.

SOURCE: Knob setting of front of radio (Connex 3300)

The best way to set it is to get you a radio check, go to channel 19 and ask someone about three to five miles away to give you a radio check, start with your modulation all the way open and go from there.....hope this was helpful...

Radio get hot when modulation bought fan seems to be staying cool

Radio most likely needs an Transmit Section alignment or has a modification in it that is causing this overheating condition. Just a guess i would say that final bias or carrier wattage/deadkey is set to high.

How should the conex 3300xl be set up for cb operation? I can't hear or transmit. The unit has high power capability.

Put the band switch on Lo, and the band dial to D/A, then you are in the CB band.

You may want to pic up a frequency counter for that radio. It will make it a lot easier to figure out where your at.

My friend would like to purchase a Connex CX 3400 HP. The store told him that it has to be converted to a CB radio. But they can't do it because its illegal. Can you explain this to me?

These radios are know as what's called 'export' radios. They are imported under the auspices of being a 10 Meter Amateur radio and then through a typically easy modification are made to allow the selection of US CB channels. usually the modification involves plugging in a loose connector inside the radio radio chassis and/or removing a jumper wire soldered to a circuit board. If there is a nearby CB Shop they will usually do this for a modest fee.

Keep in mind that a radio needs to be Type Accepted by the FCC to be legal to use on the CB band in the US and export radios typically are not. Be sure to check the rear label for an FCC ID number.

Need help in trying to boost mod/wattage on pc68xl dont have cash to take to radio shop and also add talk back. someone needed my conex more than i did use my radio everyday thank-you for your knowledge in...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Not much DIY (do-it-yourself) modifications on a Uniden Bearcat Pro PC68XL  Some that could be tried:
  • VR5 - adjust for max / best modulation;
  • L8, L9 & L10 - change coil spacing for maximum carrier output.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
