Ps3 hard drive is saying its full when it shouldn't be
My 40gig ps3 is telling me there is less than 500mb of memory left when i only have about 8gigs of data saved that is viewable in the xbar. I suspect there is adware or spyware on my hard drive due to the fact I use the web browser often. Is there anyway to remove the unwanted unseen data without reformatting the hard drive and losing all my saved game data?

Re: ps3 hard drive is saying its full when it shouldn't...
When you install a game it can sometimes install the whole game so theres no loading issues. (e.g grand theft4 3gb ish) if you go into saved game data it should tell you what games are installed, if you hit triangle and select info. it will tell you the size of the file. delete any games you dont use, and dont worry about your saves as they are in the game saves section.

This error code relates to an update error either the update didnt complete or it was a bad update.
If you have any warranty left on your ps3 then please dont mess about with it just take it back to where you brought it from and get it exchanged for a new one.
Below is a couple of ideas that people have used to solve this problem
now the first solution i can advise you to do as it dont require you to
remove any parts and does usually solve the problem, i have solved the
problem that way a couple of times on peoples ps3 and it works say 8
out of 10 of the times so you can give that a try just goto the ps3
official website for your country and then you can download the updates
and try a full update.
Now the second way does sometimes work but less often and messing with
your hard drive means your going to lose anything saved on it and you
may get errors after so i cant advise you on doing this at all as its
not recomended to work but may work its all up to you at the end of the
try the new update first then get back to me with what happens before trying the second way ok,
Go to the UK PS3 official site and access the download PS3 updates page.
Download the latest PS3 updates from this site onto a USB Memory Stick, saved in a Folder PS3\UPDATES (must be in capitals).
Plug the memory stick into any of the USB ports on the PS3 and try to run the update again.
had to swith it off, and back on again numerous times still getting the
same error but then for no reason it decided to complete the update and
now everything is ok.
This is the second way but dont try this untill you have tried the
first way several times the update may not take so you need to keep
trying until it does take only do the next option as a last resort but
it will format the hard drive meaning you lose everything saved on it
and this isnt an advisable coarse of action.
-Open the side of your PS3 where your HDD is. Take the screw out, but leave the HDD in.
update begins, slide your HDD out of the slot. It will tell you an
error occured and it tells you to restart your system and try again.
Instead, let the count from 60 run out, your screen will go blank for
aabout 30 seconds then it will start back up and tell you that your
Hard Drive needs to be reformatted. Now, slide your HDD into place
again, and continue with the format. You will lose all your saved data,
but your console will work again.
If after trying them you still have no joy then you should contact sony
and they should fix this for you for free as this isnt a fault you have
caused yourself its a fault with with either their update or the ps3
hard drive so contact them and tell them your problem.
If you have any warranty left on your ps3 then take it back to where
you brought it from and they will exchange it for a new one for you.
not much to go on here bud...is it full? do u have lots of saved data and games...possbily music or pictures or vids too? if this is the case..u need to do a backup and restore...or possibly transfer some media to an external hard drive or ur pc and run the ps3 with more space...never a good idea to get down that low seeing as the ps3 needs some extra hard drive space to operate efficiently...hope it works for ya.
Okay just to tell you the PS3 has 5 gbs already taken up on it.
I think its because the memories of the Saved Files you have on the Ps3 is usually a big amount of room on the PS3. Btw the Ps3 has updates so if you have a low amount of GBs its probably cuz of updates you should have about 48 GB of room left on the Ps3 try deleting the saved Files or try looking at how big the saved Files are.
