Bridge will not find router

Setting up a wireless router with a Windows client can be complicated.
There are a number of measures and options that have to be understood, and it's all too easy to make a mistakes--but D-Link provides an easy-to-walk-through configuration system to help you set up your D-Link wireless router.

Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the DSL modem.

Then plug the other end into the "WAN" port on the back of the D-Link wireless router.

Connect wired computers to any of the other Ethernet ports on the router using another Ethernet cable.

Access the D-Link Configuration Screen

Open your web interface and type "http://192.168.0.1" into the address bar, then hit "Enter" or "Return."

Use "Admin" as the username and leave the password blank when the login screen appears.

Click "OK." You should now see the D-Link configuration screen.

Set Up General Security

Change your administrative password by clicking on the "Tools" tab and choosing the "Admin" button. Enter a new password under the "Administrator" heading.

Confirm it, and click "Apply."
Disable the wireless Local Area Network (LAN) if you don't need to use the wireless access and you want to make sure no one else is able to access your network.

Under the "Home" tab, choose "Wireless" and select the "Off" option.

Enable Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP)

Locate the "Home" tab in the D-Link Configuration screen, and click on the "Wireless" button.

Use the "Open System" button beside "Authentication."

Select the "Enabled" button next to "WEP," and set the encryption key to "128 bit."

Set the "Key Type" to "ASCII" and choose a 13-digit password for the "Key 1" field.

Write down the password in a secure location.

Click "Apply."

Change the SSID

Change the SSID to make it more difficult for others to locate and use your network by clicking on the "Home" tab and locating the "Wireless" button.

Change the default SSID to one of your choosing, then click "Apply."

Disable SSID broadcasting.
Under the "Advanced" tab, click on "Performance" and check off the "Disabled" box. Again, click "Apply."
Filter MAC Addresses

Click the "Advanced" tab in the D-Link "Configuration" screen and select the "Filters" button.

Choose the "MAC Filters" and click on "Only Allow Computers with MAC Address Listed Below to Connect to the Network."

Enter the name and MAC address of the computers allowed to access the network, beginning with the one you are currently configuring.

Click "Apply."

Tip

How to set up wireless home network with a DSL subscription.

If you have a DSL, "Digital Suscriber Line", most companies will provide you with a modem. Usually the modem will have only one ethernet connection, meaning you can only connect one computer.

In order to connect multipule computers you will need a wireless router, ethernet HUB, or router.

Connecting with wireless Router

The only thing you really need to change is the following 3 settings on the Wireless Router. The SSID (so you know what wireless network is yours), the WPA/PSK and or WPA2/PSK, encryption method TKIP key or password. Under "administration" change the administrator password for a secure wireless connection. ( WRITE DOWN YOUR PASSWORD)

Connect to your wireless router

1. Plug in either your (1) wireless card, (2) PCMCIA wireless card, or (3) USB wireless stick.

2. Turn on your laptop or desktop computer. Select the wireless router with the strongest signal and with the name of your routers (SSID) and click connect.

3. Open your web browser and type 192.168.1.1
If this dosn't work, check your wireless router instruction manual for the correct IP address for your model.

4. Your router will ask for a password, usually (admin, admin) works or (admin, (ENTER) ) try both. If neither work try resetting the router by holding in the reset button for 3 seconds.

Once you log on to your router you can set parameters to your liking or just set the , {SSID}, {WPA/TKP} key or password, and the router administrator password to keep others from accessing your network and possibly computer.

Ethernet

Start at step 3 above.

How to set up uverse home network with 2wire gateway

To use AT&T Uverse for a home network, you need to get the AT&T "Homeview" Network Management software. AT&T provided this software in the past freely.

This software must be run on each PC on your home network, and then each PC can see the others. You then use go to My Computer, select each disk drive you want to share, right-click and select Sharing and Security, and select to share the drive. Then go on the drive to the folders you want to share and right-click and set them to be shared. Then the Homeview system will show these are shared folders. You can also share printers on the same network using the Homeview software.

Can't get more than one pc to connect with linksys router

Well I'm not sure if that's correct. When you Reset your Router, you cleared all of the available Networks. Let me explain. A Router is essentially a way for one computer to get its' feed from the Main computer. So when you setup your router, you had to establish which was going to be the Main System. Generally the main computer is connected via Ethernet Cat5 cable but not necessary.

In order for a computer to talk to your Network individually it must have it's own Keycode. You Open up View Available Networks and you should be able to see all Routers within your area. You'll place the keycode in that field and then that Computer is then able to access the Internet via the Router.

Since you Reset it, you wiped out the information and will need to start over. Question : Why did you Reset it anyway? What caused you to feel the need to do that because that's never a solution for not being able to connect.

Unable to access the internet via my laptop

One of two problems. The Security Key for your wireless connection is wrong, or the McAfee is causing a problem. Most likely conflicting with any other virus software on your computer. Try removing McAfee from the computer and your solution should go away. Try another virus software such as Avast! Home edition. McAfee is known for having issues with wireless internet connections.
