Note book won't start

I have a Laptop almost a year and a half, no problem at all. Never mover from where it stands, Has a fanboard, so I think nothing could go wrong, untill one day it won't start. The lights go on, and then everything shuts down, ans so on.
I read in the compaq page that it could be the motherboard. Just like that??????
Could it be the board, and why so sudden, bad product???
Is it worth to fix it?? new board???

Hi, My Presario 730us has the same problem. It seemed liked overheating. It would shut down after a few minutes. Now it won't start at all and when I plug it in there's an electrical smell. I've taken it apart and cleaned around the fan, which was dusty. Is there anything else that I can do, or do you think something has burned up, and if so, what and what can I do? Thanks for your help!:)

best buy said its the motherboard, they said it would cost $824.00. I only paid $529.00 for it, (Compaq Presario F730). It broke 2 months after the warranty was up, lucky I paid with American Express, they double the manufacturers warranty up to one year. I contacted them, they had me submit the work order and refunded my original $529.00. I bought a Toshiba Satillite. My son has a Toshiba for three years now with no problems at all.

Yes it does sound like it could be the motherboard. For the cost of computers today it is probably more worth it to buy a new system. The reason it went bad "just like that" is that electrical components get worn out just like mechanical components. If you can imagine a stream running down a hill, over time the water picks up the sand and moves it downhill. Well in the chips you have an electrical current. Kinda like water. And the chips are like the sand. After time they get worn down and they have nothing left to "think" with. This is a VERY simple explanation to your problem and probably longer than what you had anticipated, but i want you to understand it may not necessarily be anything you did but parts do go bad.
Before buying a new system or repairing your current one you can try to clean out the computer by blowing out the heat sinks and such but cannot promise this will fix anything.

Although it is not for your specific model this definately gives you an idea about what i am talking about.

might i ask why you gave me such a poor answer? Is there something i did not answer for you? These ratings are the only compensation we get for helping people here at fixya. Ratings like this make our overall ratings go down which makes us seem less trustworthy. If you are going to post a question like this i'm not sure what kind of answer you are expecting. You are not asking for a way to fix it, you are asking if it is worth it.

Is there a dvd player on the ASUS TP500L laptop?

You could connect the two devices by a network cable (Cat 6 RJ45) and use file sharing, but I prefer to use a USB-to-USB transfer cable, like the one attached. It is USB 3.0 compatible but is still very fast at USB 2.0 speeds.

Sounds like two problems, one is the battery may be worn out.

To check the video, connect another analog monitor to your external video port, turn on the machine and put the lid down and observe. If the same thing happens with the other monitor, it would be cheaper and well worth buying a new machine.... it is a hardware problem and parts are rare to find for a 2 year old model.

Hp550 note book got wet, now it will not turn on? why is this.

There is a short circuit on your motherboard maybe. I think you might want to try to open it up and use a blower but remove all the power source to your laptop. You might also want to rest the laptop for about 3 days.

Acer note book would just turn off without any warning with power

it could be a problem with the windows operating system... you can try going to safe mode first by continuously pressing F8 before windows starts to load upon turning on your laptop. if it works then you can use the windows operating system disc to repair the problem and if it doesn't work then you might need to reformat and reinstall the OS...

You need to remove all the screws from the back also, then remove the cover to the rear on the bottom and remove the wireless card (make note as to connection colours) and there is 2 (I think) screws under there, then one also under the battery, then the whole top opens up.

Make sure you have removed all screws from the bottom case, including the four under the rubber feet at the rear.

This was the most awful laptop I have ever worked on!

Acer Aspire 1804WSMi (hardware issue)

Can you get into the bios at setup and reset it to default settings.....the CPU cannot burn out what happens if it overheats it just shuts down. I dont think its a hardware issue because you said youhad to shut it down by removing the battery and the adapter you shut it down I imagine by holding down the power on button?. When you have to do that its a software problem.
