Note book won't start

I have a Laptop almost a year and a half, no problem at all. Never mover from where it stands, Has a fanboard, so I think nothing could go wrong, untill one day it won't start. The lights go on, and then everything shuts down, ans so on.
I read in the compaq page that it could be the motherboard. Just like that??????
Could it be the board, and why so sudden, bad product???
Is it worth to fix it?? new board???

Hi, My Presario 730us has the same problem. It seemed liked overheating. It would shut down after a few minutes. Now it won't start at all and when I plug it in there's an electrical smell. I've taken it apart and cleaned around the fan, which was dusty. Is there anything else that I can do, or do you think something has burned up, and if so, what and what can I do? Thanks for your help!:)

best buy said its the motherboard, they said it would cost $824.00. I only paid $529.00 for it, (Compaq Presario F730). It broke 2 months after the warranty was up, lucky I paid with American Express, they double the manufacturers warranty up to one year. I contacted them, they had me submit the work order and refunded my original $529.00. I bought a Toshiba Satillite. My son has a Toshiba for three years now with no problems at all.

Yes it does sound like it could be the motherboard. For the cost of computers today it is probably more worth it to buy a new system. The reason it went bad "just like that" is that electrical components get worn out just like mechanical components. If you can imagine a stream running down a hill, over time the water picks up the sand and moves it downhill. Well in the chips you have an electrical current. Kinda like water. And the chips are like the sand. After time they get worn down and they have nothing left to "think" with. This is a VERY simple explanation to your problem and probably longer than what you had anticipated, but i want you to understand it may not necessarily be anything you did but parts do go bad.
Before buying a new system or repairing your current one you can try to clean out the computer by blowing out the heat sinks and such but cannot promise this will fix anything.

Although it is not for your specific model this definately gives you an idea about what i am talking about.

might i ask why you gave me such a poor answer? Is there something i did not answer for you? These ratings are the only compensation we get for helping people here at fixya. Ratings like this make our overall ratings go down which makes us seem less trustworthy. If you are going to post a question like this i'm not sure what kind of answer you are expecting. You are not asking for a way to fix it, you are asking if it is worth it.

Hi!

Probably sometinng got corrupted on the book, you can try a soft reset to see if the issue is fixed, if not you will need to do a hard reset, this will set the reader to factory settings and remove all data:

Note: Make sure the reader is at least half charged.

To Soft Reset:
1. With the reader disconnected from the computer, hit the reset at the bottom of the reader for 3 secons
2. Slide the power switch, the screen will blink and will show "Opening Book". Allow the reader to load and see if the problem still persist

To Hard Reset:
1. Hit the reset button at the bottom of the reader for 3 secons
2. While the reader shows "Opening Book" press and hold at the same time the number zero "0" and the down arrow on the directional buttons until "Reset All" appears
3. The reader wil laskyou to press the number 5 to proceed
4 Reader will go off, now you can turn it on and allow it to load this time.

GoodLuck!

There are 2 reasons. While transporting if they lifted with won wards to discharge side, chances are there to oil entering. And while switch on it starts pumping the oil.Secondly, chance for gas leak.
It's advisable to remove gas and check for leak. If no leak, flush out the system and replace drier.
Vacuum and do gas charging. Please write if it's helpful.

The adapter to my Western Digital Book does not respond

The monitor requires a adapter with a current output of 4 amps. but the Western Digital Book adapter can only supply 2 amps (half the current required by the monitor).
This means using the WD adapter on the monitor will stress this adapter beyond its capacity and continual use of this adapter on the monitor will cause it to fail and/or switch off if it has overload protection.
If you are having problems with the 2 amp adapter on the WD Book, then the power adapter could be faulty or it maybe OK when the adapter cools down.
I suggest you get a 12 volt 4 or more amps adapter for the monitor.
You may need an adapter for the WB book too if the adapter is faulty.

Sony Vaio laptop

The LCD panel had been broken and needs to be replaced. This is not a cheap part. Check with a local computer repair center to get the replacement screen cost. This should be a damage claim against the movers.
