I plugged the pad to my hard drive but it is not lit, meaning it did not turn on..what might be the problem

Whats not turning on, the pad or the hard drive.

If its the pad, does it work without the hard drive connected, if so its a hard drive issue.

If its the hard drive, first try connecting to another pc, see if it works. If yea, there's a problem with your pad, perhaps not giving enough or any power.

If it still doesn't work then its definitely you hard drive with the problem.

These external hard drives are really just a caddy (Box) an adapter circuit (IDE/Sata - USB) also providing power.

These circuit can and do fail, although the hard drive remains good. You need to dismantle it and check the hard drive out. The easiest way is to put it in another caddy or another pc.

I would like to know how to add signatures to my word document. I have Word 2008 for a mac.

You can scan your signature and save it as a jpeg or gif image file.
To add your signature onto a Word document, just place a picture (your scanned signature) on the document where you want your signature to appear.
If you want to send this Word document via e-mail as an attachment, I suggest you create a PDF file of your Word document and send the PDF file as the attachment.
If you send the Word document with your signature, the person who receives this can not only open your document using Word BUT can also access your signature image and can use it without your authorization.

Test is too light, needs to be darker and read at an angle

There is a contrast brightness control on these, eitgher in the manu or via external button manipulation. I am not a user of the 8500 terminal mine is earlier but i believe they all have it. Battery life also plays a part in the amount of brightness and contrast seen on the screen. Might bwe time to update the battery.

How do you capture signature

To capture signatures you must have a graphic tablet that has a pen mouse with it. Procure and install the tablet and then use the pen mouse to capture your signatures. It is an electronic slate that is attached to the USB port and use to trace drawings, maps and such non linear graphics. Basically for outlines.

I6550 configuration/initial install

You can find the user's manual at the URL below. From my experience, using this terminal requires active support from your POS software. It is said to work with Microsoft RMS, but I'm still trying to get mine to talk to the computer. Good luck with it.

SigLite 1x5 Model:T-S460-B (with serial connector)

The problem was not the topaz pad but my laptop. I removed all software which needs the serial port and I finished all not necessary programs which were running in the back but the problem was still alive. Now I asked my administrator for more rights and I changed the name of the port from port "1" to port "3" (port "2" doesn't work). I've got the message "port 3 is already in use" but the pc accepted the exchange of the name. Afterwards I changed the portnumber in the ini.file of the Topaz Software and now it works without any problems... strange, strange.... my five colleagues who are using the same pad on the same type of laptop (Compaq nc 6120) haven't got any problems during installation of the pad.
Thanks for your interest - kind: regards Ben Gun

Writing with the pen

I've done this, but only by using a graphics program, creating and saving the signature and then importing it into Word as an image and placing it where I wanted it...

Hope that helps a bit.
