Look in your manual and find the "Bobbin stopper". It has two positions. One of these positions locks up the machine. Just push it to the side and your machine will free up. This drove me nuts finding it. After I found it, my wife said, "oh yeah, now I remember"!

Your machine is probably froze up. You need to oil it, put oil in the hook under the bobbin case, remove the bottom cover and oil it well there. Let it sit a little while and then try to turn it by hand. Sometimes when they are froze up, it can take a few days to get them freed up. Don't force it as you could break gears and then you will have a bigger probelm.

Needle bar stuck singer 1120 wont move with pedal or manually turning the dial

Very likely there is a thread or two stuck in the bobbin area. Open up the bobbin door, remove bobbin and bobbin case. Now try to turn it with the handwheel. If still no action, then look closely at the socket where the bobbin case fit into. There are 2 black plastic levers -one on each side. Move each one outward. This will allow the center to easily fall out.
Now move the hand wheel. If it is still stuck, then remove the needle plate. Remove two screws to allow the plate to come off. Now you have a clear view of all the mechanism around the needle and bobbin area. Remove stray dusty bunnies, thread etc.
If that does not do it, then you may have an issue with the belt or motor -but not too likely.
Reply if you are still having problems.

Brother 1120 sewing machine timing adjustment

Easy to do remove sole plate remove shuttle and case, don't forget to pull the spring loaded plate to one side by inserting a electrical screw driver in the slot and twisting it anticlockwise to release the case, remove drive dogs this will the expose the cotton pickup assembly turn the hand wheel anticlockwise until the hook gets close to the needle now watch the needle it should be in the lowest position and just as it starts it's way back up the hook should be just going behind the needle to pick up the tread if this is not the case and it's out of position then hold the hand wheel tight and insert a small screw driver into one of the gaps in the base were the shuttle case fits in away that you are able to move the hook assembly one way or the other with a gentle pressure and move the hook just to make it enter just behind the needle as it only just starts it's way up at this position it is now complete and you can reassemble and run slowly at first just to make sure things are okay.

I have a singer 603e that I just purchased from an estate sale. I got home and tried to use it, but the take up lever is stuck. How do I fix this?

try some wd 40, spray it on the area of the take up lever & let it set for at least 10 minutes then with the hand wheel on the right hand side slowly move the hand wheel toward you & if it still doesn't move re spray again & wait again then try the hand wheel again to move toward you eventually it should start to break loose if it's just stuck.
since you pruchased it at a estate sale, there not much telling when the machine was serviced last
if the spraying doesn't work, consider having it serviced

Singer 1425 is bound up. The knob on the right side of the machine will not turn. Do you have a suggestion?

This can be a bit tricky, these are the steps I start with to free up a bound machine
1. lift pressere foot up
2. remove needle plate
3. remove bobbin, case, hook on side load bobbins
4. Try to turn hand wheel
5. If still stuck, remove top cover of machine and use a high quality oil and lube all metal to metal moving parts.
6. remove bottom of machine and oil.
7 look for something broken like gears or machine out of time

Wait a day or two for oil to get in a do it job, if still stuck contact a repair shop.

My Model # 1120 Singer sewing machine needle will not go up and down when motor is pressed. The bobbin winder, however, spins.

It sounds like your machine is set to wind the bobbin right now, so the drive is disengaged. That would explain why the bobbin winder pin is the only part moving. Check your manual for how to reset the machine when you are finished winding the bobbin.

Most machines have a way to disengage the drive for the needle while filling the bobbin. Then once the bobbin is filled, you re-engage the drive. Some machines have a separate, smaller hand-wheel that turns and clicks into place. Some machines automatically reengage the drive once the bobbin pin snaps into place away from the drive belt.

I hope this helps!

The take up lever will not go down! I have tried oiling and cleaning, Using the pedal and the hand wheel, but it will only move a little bit either way. What could be wrong?

Sounds like you have it jammed with either thread or material, or lint. Clean it all out and oil according to you manual's instruction.

Singer Model 1120 The hand wheel will not turn.

Usually it is because there is a bit of thread stuck in the raceway area, take it all out and have a good look.
