I am getting a black message window that reads "this is a string to test Text mode startup message function". What can I do to fix this? I was able to just press any button on the remote and it would go away, now it only goes away for 30 to 45 seconds.

Will tries go into the tv screen menu again tries see if u can locate and functions like TEXT ON/OFF TEXT 1,2,3..Tries to off all that. The Close Captioning 1,2,3.. and TEXT 1,2,3..are same functions as TEXT 123 3..funsctions have a permanation of a big black box on the tv screen as Close Captioning functions writting without the big black box on the tv screen.
The tv some how it on Close Captioning modes 1,2,3 or Text 11,2,3 is on that why have the big black box is on the screen.Go to your tv menu look for Close Captioning functioning 1,2,3 or Text functioning 1,2,3 turn it all to off.The black boxes will disappear.
go into menu and look for Closed caption---one of the items will be TEXT---if it is engaged you will have a black box on certain channels in the middle of the screen---switch the text to CC1 for closed captions
Go into your settings of the TV menu or there will be a single button on the JVC remote marked "CC" for closed caption. Press it or in the menu turn off the "TEXT" mode. With the text mode on you are allowing the TV to display text information wich means usually a black rectangular box that appears on the screen with no text in it. Usually on the cc button just press it until it scrolls through turning off the CC or text modes.
It really sounds like the child lock has been activated. This uaually blocks the keys on the TV, but the remote should work.
If your remote doesn't work either, make sure the batteries work.
If your remote for the TV can operate other apliances such as a VCR or DVD player, make sure it is in TV mode. If there are any buttons marked TV, VCR, DVD you could try pressing the TV button to set it in TV mode. If the To has a text-tv function there might be more than one button marked TV; one for setting TV mode as posed to DVD operating mode, and one for getting TV picture back when viewing text pages.
