Kenmore 417.98702891 is making high pitched squeal while drying

Someone said its my dryer belt, so I ordered a replacement belt. How do I change it?

I have the same Kenmore Washer/Dryer that is squeaking. Already replaced the belt, still squeaking. Last year Sear made the repair and used a lubricant. Does anyone know what type of lubricant is to be used? We live in Hawaii and Sears lubricant costs $$$$$ to ship. Sears cannot tell me what type of lube is indicated for this model i.e. Silicon, Lithium (tried this - only stopped squeak for a week). Frigidaire says a transmission oil is indicated for our dryer - but they want over $100 with shipping and cannot tell us if it is regular motor transmission oil. Thanks! Any help would be great!!!

SOURCE: Dryer makes noise when turning like bearings going or belt squeek

Hi,
check the following -
It's noisy
If your dryer is noisy, check these:

Rollers
Idler pulley
Glides
Rear drum bearing
Blower wheel

Rollers
Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.

Idler pulley
Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

Glides
Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

Rear drum bearing
Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

Blower wheel
Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it.

good luck.....

SOURCE: Noisy dryer......when engaged...making squeaking/squealing noise.

If the noise is like a shaking of rattling , like coins being shaked , then it is an object trapped inside the drum.

If instead the noise is a loud grinding , that may get louder on high speed, then it is usually a bad drum bearing.

If dryer is not cooling, check that the noise is not coming from the ventilation fan.

Rollers and belt tensioner can also make noise.

SOURCE: MAYTAG top loader makes high pitched squeal when agitating/spinni

This is a classic symptom of pulley/motor shafts/bearings in need of lubrication. It's not the agitator. You'll need to take the back off (with power unplugged) to access.

SOURCE: GE WSM2700DAWWW dryer squeaks

When the felt on the front tub guides wears off it will squeak. It can be replaced by part 1220 and 1221 on this diagram and parts list. Take off the front panel along with the door to access it.

There is a ball and socket bearing at the back of the drum but it doesn't usually go bad. If you need to get to it, go in from the rear of the dryer behind the heat coils. 1212 is the bearing housing.

HIGH PITCHED dryer SQUEAL but clothes are drying...

Had same problem that went away after replacing each of the drum roller wheel/bearing assemblies. (repairclinic.com) Not the easiest of jobs removing & replacing the drum, but a lot cheaper than a new machine.

Check your belt for ware and watch toe idler wheels, they could wear out and make that kind of noise.

When its drying it has a high pitch squeal.

Many driers have a belt drive drum. This might squeal if is slipping. Check the drum turns easily and the belt is adjusted correctly.

The dryer is making a high pitched squeal.

Most likely the fan belt is about to fail.

Otherwise it could just be a poorly greased part from the factory, I would lean toward dried out belt about to bust.

Maytag electric dryer is making a high pitched noise

The squealing noise is from the belt tensioner. Replace the pulley only on the tensioner along with a new belt. The bearing in the pulley is causing the squeal. Sears will sell this in a kit. The top and the front panel of the dryer will have to be removed to replace these parts

Dryer works but makes high pitch noise

This probally the idler pulley, drum rollers, or a bearing hard to say until you take it apart and take a look. There is a good video on checking and replacing these parts at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html
Hope this helps

Squeeks loadly when running

The drum belt is slipping or a support wheel bearing is worn.  Spray some belt dressing on the belt or replace the belt.  Lubricate the wheel bearing or replace it.  It is also possible that the seal between the drum and the housing (at the back) is worn and the drum is rubbing metal-to-metal on the housing.

I don't think they can be, but, also take a look at the fan bearing assembly too. You should be able to isolate if the noise is from the motor bearings or blower bearings.
