What OS are you running on it, Vista or XP? There's some HP related hotfixes related to performance on this model.

Hmmm, well, if the memmory is ok, the cpu is ok...the it must be a lot of programs running in the background on your pc.

That really slows a pc down a lot.

Have u checked how many and whitch programs running in the background?

I have a HP Compaq 6510b, and I don't how to change my screen brightness. I doesn't matter if it's with the keyboard or using the mouse. Thanks.

Greetings to brighten or darken the screen it would be using the FN key simultaneousness while pressing the icon key some are sunshine and half moon for dark look for the obvious key that looks like it would either be a light or dark symbol. Thanks for using FixYa! Do not forget to place a vote. John

My laptop HP Compaq 6510b Notebook PC . Can I upgrade the momary from 2G Ram To 4G of Ram ? . And the prosser Cor2Deu 2Gspeed Can I upgrade it to Cor I5 . Thank You

CPU upgrade is a big NO.
The core I5 is a different socket, and modern laptops use mobile CPU's.
Memory upgrade is ok, you can fit 4GB "Up to 4GB of 667-MHz DDR2 SDRAM, dual channel memory support "

This is because XP doesn't recognize SATA HDD. So restart your computer to enter BIOS setup and disable SATA option.

NO OS stated, we cant guess what operating system is there.
ever. windows what, linux, PS2,/freedos, put there new.
for sure the cause is someone, erased your hdd,
new hdd or used MS microsoft install disks on this PC
that bad act kills dead all HP drivers, HP made it not MS.
so....
what is the cure, well asking at HP tops my list.
ever heard of HP, fixya is not HP.
missing out? please elaborate that please.

here is the real hp page, not fake, not spam , not scalpers.
or posers.
the top custom switch panel on HP are only used on HP puters.
so only the HP drivers work with those. if missing are now dead.
on mine the wifi button dead and volume up down dead ,etc.
the manuals are there to read and learn all buttons. sure is.

How do I adjust the screen brightness on a HP Compaq 6510b laptop when the keyboard controls do not function? (running windows XP professional)

Hi, Actually, the problem here is you don?t have any options in windows XP to increase the brightness without using keyboard. HP does not provide any utility with the OS as it is OEM. Try this · Click on start > Click on control panel..... · Click on power options.... · Click on " Change settings plan "..... · Adjust the brightness and save the plan..... And exit... that should work.... OR Replace the keyboard and get the all things working

Running recovery reformats your harddrive to factory defaults and does wipe out all data. Any programs will have to be reinstalled and reactivated.

To get your data back you would need to import it from a backup or send it out to a company that specializes in recovering lost data... at a hefty price.

Sorry 'bout that.
