My Acer is new and I was having trouble getting around. I'm not sure what I did, but I had a choose of what I wanted to do ie shut down, log off, etc. I chose to log off, unfortunately I can not log back on. I never made a password.(I thought I was logging out of current program-AOL) I am running Vista. Is there a way to get into my computer? I tried the new password option, however I am getting a mesage telling me to use a password disk or flashdrive memory something or other. I dont have either. I do not want to buy a password program because I heard they don't work. what are my options?

Re: can not log on
If you never entered a password it won't ask you for one when you log in. If you have forgotten the password of your user you can create a livecd from the following iso. Use the newly created disk to boot your machine you might have to set you bios to boot from the cd/dvd drive first or hit F8 to enter boot list menu watch your screen at startup to see what keys get you into the bios F2 and the boot menu. Then boot from the disc and crack your password. You will need another computer with a cd/dvd burner and a burner program. I recommend ImgBurn. Good Luck PS I recommend making a password recovery disk once you get back in.

If you have forgot the login password, I would suggest a full system recovery. Inorder to do so, turn Off the computer. Now, when you turn ON the computer make sure you press the Alt key and tap on F10 key ie ALT+F10. It will go to the factory recovery screen. Choose full system restore or recovery and follow onscreen instruction.
There are a couple of different ways you may have lost your icons. They could have disappeared when you installed a certain program or even when you upgraded to a new operating system. To enable those icons and more, right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Click on the Desktop tab and hit the Customize Desktop button. Next, under the General tab, check off any of the icons you want to appear on your desktop. Once you do that, they will all be returned to your desktop in full view. You can choose from the icons of My Documents, My Computer, My Network Places and Internet Explorer. Now, on the other hand, you may want to take some of those icons off your desktop. If that's the case, just uncheck them and they will be out of your way.
Hello ! i want you to try something re install the operating program on this computer .the operating program might be corrupted . thats why its behaving that way .also run an anti virus to check the hard disk for program infections .ie before X P installation .
1) Get SATA drivers for Windows (whatever flavour you use) For you who want to get driver AHCI for Acer 4530, the driver can be download here: http://rapidshare.com/files/196616727/Driver_AHCI_Acer_4530_-_Windows_XP.rar
2) Control Panel, Add New Hardware. 3) Yes, already connected, browse to the bottom, hit “add a new device” 4) No, point it to the directory of your SATA drivers 5) Choose your driver from the list that returns. (Mine was the nVidia SATA controller) 6) Uninstall other standard IDE controllers (Not Primary nor Secondary) 7) Reboot and enter your BIOS 8) Change to AHCI mode 9) Boot to Windows… , if you success you will not meet the Blue Screen and Windows will install and find the driver automatically. 10) Windows wants to reboot. Do that. 11) Go to Device Manager and then uninstall the AHCI controller that you installed (there will be two or more now, but must Uninstall the one with the exclamation mark) 12) Success!
To set up your screensaver, right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Choose the Screen Saver tab. In the drop down menu for Screen saver, make sure something is selected instead of (None). Next click the Preview and it will give you a glimpse of what the screensaver you chose will look like. Move the mouse to get out of it and select apply if you like that one or choose a different one.
Unfortunately, there are only 2 ways around this. Reinstallation of te OS will wipe out everything but allow a new account to be created. If this is the case, create 2 accounts both with admin priveleges for future scenarios. Restore her important files from her backups ( she did backup on a regular basis, didn't she?).
If there are no backups and she doesn't want to lose what's on there, Google "password recovery software" and choose from the multitude of hits that are returned. I can't recommend any of them as I have never had to use them before.
