just to confirm this is the nuvi 750 unit? if it is something else let me know.
Turn the unit off, and then back on. Now Slide the power key to the left and hold for 10 seconds the unit turns off. Turn the unit back on, it should work normally.
if you still don't have sound, try playing some music from the unit - Touch tools, media player, touch source to open the music player, trouch browse, touch a category, to play the entire category touch play all.
if you don't have any music in the unit (mp3 files are supported and you can load them to the memory card or with a data cable over your computer)
Double check that you got the volume turned up if you don't hear anything, from the menu page touch volume and then touch the speaker icon with the waves coming out of it to adjust it up.
if the sound is still gone, lets reset the entire unit and restore it to factory settings.
Enter the maintenance mode as shown on this video by holding your finger on the bottom left corner, sometimes the right corner of the nuvi and once in maintenance mode select clear all user data, that will reset the unit back to factory.
Try to replace the battery . Because I think that the battery is almost at the end of it's life .
If that didn't work , then I recommend you to reset your NUVI .
Here is the resetting method :
1:Turn the Nuvi on.
2:Touch the tools icon on the main screen. The tools icon is represented by a wrench surrounded by a blue circle.
3:Touch the "Settings" icon which appears as a wrench.
4:Push the "Restore" button at the bottom of the screen. A confirmation message will appear asking to confirm restoring the Nuvi to factory settings. Push yes to restore the factory settings ............................................................................................ Try this for hard reset .
Turn off Garmin device. Press down on bottom right corner of the touchscreen [ Don't let go ] , and then power on the GPS unit. You should be prompted whether do you really want to erase all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press “Yes” to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.
you will need to reset the unit by pulling off the face plate. once you unplug and power off the unit, hold the reset button down for 5 secs. after you release the reset button, power back up the device and it will be normal.
Click on tool icon on lower right corner. Touch Map icon. Touch
map Info icon in center of screen. Touch City Navigator North America NT v8 icon so that the box is checked. Then click on back until you reach "Where To?" screen. If "Touch City Nav..." box is not checked, then you cannot input state.
Remove the face cover (GENTLY pry it loose by using the fingernail groove directly under the GARMIN logo), press the RESET button, then re-attach front cover... this is covered in the owners manual, also available online at garmin.com /support /downloads
Have you tried resetting the unit? Press the reset button under the faceplate and see if this helps. If not, you may need to do a Master Reset. Keep in mind, this would ERASE ALL YOUR FAVORITES and may remove some of the updates as well.

Good Luck.... GB_C
Had the same probelm. Took me a while but I got it...here's how:
I disconnected from the computer and stuck a paper clip in the reset hole of the device (not sure if this changed anything). I then turned the device on, waited for the map to show up, touched the screen, and selected the wrench icon (Change preferences). This should bring up a new page, 1 of 8, as shown in the top left corner of the screen. From there, touch the over arrow, touch it again and again...until you get to page 8 of 8. The top left icon that looks like three flags is the change language page. Select and you're done!
