Question about Freecom (24358) 160 GB Network Hard Drive

1 Answer

Files need updating but we have nothing to update them from

Hi,
We have a Freecom Sync 160GB at work. We used it to move a lot of folders from our network onto the harddrive for storage, to save network space. Some of the folders show their status as 'orphan's and work perfectly, but others say they 'need updating' and say the sync folder is on the network. But we no longer have these files on the network - they were deleted when they were copied onto the harddrive. The affected folders are visible, but they are empty - all their contents have gone. Have we lost the files they contained?
We have Microsoft Windows XP and most of the missing files would have been created with Microsoft Office Word 2003.
Thanks, Louise

Just a long shot but my corrupted Freecom disk started working problem after I simply plugged it into the USB port of a laptop running VISTA. Worth a try as VISTA has the ability to uncorrupt disk structures.

May be that is hidden..Go to the control pannel look for folder options and then in the view tab check the box show all files and then click ok.

connect it again see if are able to see your files again. if not then there are data recovery tools available on the internet.

But i think the first method will solve your problem

My 160g freecom hard drive has stopped showing my files says its empty but i have 20g of space used how can i get them to show up again?

make sure your reading the files on the same type of system.. if it is formated in NTSF you can only read in in newer windows systems, if it is in FAT32 it needs to be read on a fat32 system

Hello patsyzara

(01) 1st, for now (as a precaution against data loss), please, don't add or delete anything to or from that external HDD (hard disk drive)

(02) Just to make sure, the photos and not just a catalog of the photos were originally stored onto the external HDD, yes?

(03) Do you still have access to the computer where you originally had the external HDD connected at the time you encrypted the files (photos)?

Even if the protected files were on the same external HDD that you are using now, the protection software is possibly associated w/ the computer on which the files were fist stored.

(04) Please, tell us exactly what mechanism (the name of the software, etc) you used to originally encrypt these files.

(05) Did you recall if you used software that came w/ the external HDD to encrypt your files?

(06) Please, tell us the the following:

(A) The operating system that was installed on the previous computer you're referring to. (Windows 2000, Windows XP, etc.)

(B) The model number of your Freecom external HDD. (look for a sticker or any markings on the case).

(C) The name of the encryption software if you can remember.

(06) If you still have access to the original computer, connect the external hard disk to that computer and tell us if you can see the files again.

(07) If you can, decrypt the files and then transfer the external HDD to the new computer.

If you need assistance w/ ANY of these steps or have any questions at all, comments, observations, etc., please, post back here w/ them. We will continue to work w/ you on this issue until it is resolved or we reach an impasse.

Thank you
BJ @:)

Free space availabilities

Is it formatted as FAT32? If so, it doesn't support files larger than 4GB.

Backup the files you have on it, then reformat as NTFS.

Freecom 160GB Hard drive not recognised

Drives do fail Nick. Is it powering up [power supply problem?] Plug it in and go to Start/Control Panel/Admin tools/computer management/storage/ removable storage and disk management. See if the disc is recognised there. If it is not, and if the disk is spinning Try putting it into the deep freeze overnight. Plugging in next morning and if it fires up get as much off as possible before it goes down again.
