Question about Palm m500, m505 & m515 Install CD (pa1456)

PALM M500 will not charge (Green LED does not light)

I use a PALM m500 every day and it has proved excellent for years.

As a contigency, I also bought a used PALM M500 a year ago and when I tested it, it worked 100% OK. But now I come to use this second PALM, it will not charge, the green LED will not light up and it is generally dead.

I know the charging cradle works OK,.

I doubt that the fault is a dud battery (even if one of the cells inside is dead) beacuse surely the green LED would light up when charging.

I fear that the fault is a "motherbaord" fault which makes me think about switching to a horribly-power-hungry alternative to the M500 ? Help !

Acer will not turn on or charge

Sounds like the power supply is dead. It probably has an inline AC adapter and that usually has an LED which should be bright green if working. Check that and also if it is cold, warm, or hot when plugged into the computer. If cold, no power going thru. Warm to hottish is usual state with green LED.
If you have access to a regular VOM meter, set it for DC voltage and check voltage at end that goes into computer. This should be around 12 VDC. Again, if nothing then the p/s is dead and needs replacing.
If the p/s checks out OK, then the problem is inside the laptop. That will need a technician to check out. Could be anything from a loose wire to a burned out capacitor or chip. good luck.

My Palm m505 will not synchronize with the pc. Everything is plugged in, the battery was new about 3 years ago and sitll keeps a charge. My last synchronization with the pc was Nov 20th. I hate to lose...

Not sure which software you're using but with mine there is a shortcut in the program menu to start HotSynch. I know that's a duh, but ya never know.
Second option is to reinstall the Desktop software. You may have a corrupted driver or cfg file.

The battery is most likely malfunctioning, try replacing it because all of those signs just happen because it's plugged in.

Sorry, but Palm is not providing an upgrade (at least for the M515 model) to a newer Palm OS (from the 4.1 that you already have). Palm is not known for supporting older products (yours dates back to about 2002).

As for bluetooth - the unit does have an SD card slot, and there are SD Bluetooth adapters made, but I don't know if they would work with OS 4.1 (and neither does Palm). Additionally, the cheapest I found after a quick search was $117 bucks. For a little more money than that, you can buy a new Palm, with OS 5.0, and bluetooth built-in. Wish I had better news for you...

Cheers
Nick
