Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I have a Dell latitude e4310 laptop my 10 year old has somehow changed the password and locked my computer. Can you please help

If you haven't set a password for the Administrator account you could try to log in as an Administrator then change your password back. First you need to change how users log on.

1. Click Start
2. Click Settings
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click User Accounts
5. Click Change the way users log on or off
6. Deselect Use the Welcome screen
7. Click Apply options

Exit Control Panel. Then Restart computer, hold F8 when rebooting and choose SafeMode when prompted.

When Log on Prompt appears type in Administrator as user and leave password blank ( this is the Windows default password)

This will let you boot into Windows where you can go back to Control Panel, User Accounts and change your account password.

Then just reboot normally and enter new password.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.

Getting past password when turning on

No, actually would be quite easier if you booted the laptop in safemode. once in safemode, you will see a user name that ordinarily is not there. This user name is called "Admin" or "Administrator".

Click on Admin and go to control panel, user accounts, click on the one your daughter messed with, and select delete password. From there, you can leave it deleted or create new one yourself.

to boot to safemode, follow these steps:
1) restart laptop
2) repeatedly press F8 and windows utility screen will appear. From here, select safemode
**Don't be alarmed by the bunch of jibberish you will notice on screen as system boots up to safemode.
Once your mission has been accomplished, simply reboot once more and system will automatically boot normally.

Forgotten User Password

Try to get your hands on a windows installation disc, or even the recovery disc that came with the computer. If you get the windows installation disc, you can reinstall windows onto it. That is basically what you can do.

Forgoten user password adnd broken laptop

ok, ayel, if you are running windows XP try this...

Boot into Windows normally then press the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys sequence together twice, and you will be shown a Log On to Windows menu with options to enter a User Name and Password.

In the User Name text box, type Administrator and leave the Password field blank. Then press Enter or click on OK. If there is no password protecting the Administrator account, or a blank password is set, then you will be able to access the Windows with full administrative privileges as Administrator....

once you're in, go to the control panel, users, and change the password for your profile! ;-)

even if this all works, i still think you should contact the repair shop and ask them why you aren't able to boot into safe mode.

hope this works for you!

Laptop passwords

Assuming this is after the computer boots

-Boot into safemode by pressing F8 before the Windows loading thing comes up.
-Login as Administrator
-Go into Control Panel-> Users
-Change the password of her account to <blank>
-Save and reboot

Assuming this is before the computer boots and the BIOS is not password protected
-Go into the bios and remove the startup password.
