How to set up you wireless router to use a wireless network.

From a wired connection open you internet browser and type in 192.168.1.1 . The user name or password is usually "admin" or the password is sometimes blank. Once you log in you should change you network name from the default. For example a Linksys router's network name will be Linksys, this is fine unless someone else in you area has the same network name then neither of you will be able to connect.

To set up a wireless security you will need to select the type of security you want to use WPA or WEP and so. WPA is easier to remember as it is just a word you choose, while WEP generates a key based on a word you enter. If you do not set up a key you wireless network will be listed a unsecured.
If you set up a network key make sure to write it down, you will need it for every computer that wants to connect to your network.

If you are still not able to connect to the internet go back to the router menu via you internet brouser again. this time change the last letters of the default server. example 192.168.1.1 --> 192.168.1.4

Nb200 does not connect to wireless router ( dlink / virgin ) but will connect to neighbours unsecured wirless connection

you need to change your wirless settings.
I gues you have a high level security assigned to your router like WPA-PSK with a passphrase or WEP with 128 bit encryption.

Solution is :

Login to your router page and change the wireless security to WEP 64 bit and assign 10 digit number as a password in key 1. change your wireless name and click apply. and then try to connect to your own chnaged network.

I got a new laptop and I want to connect to wireless I have a Netgear router. When I try to connect it wants a network key. How do I find that?

Hi

I think you are able to go online with other computers so you simply need to follow the steps below to solve your concern:

a. you need to be on your computer which is working on the internet, Open the internet explorer
b. type in 192.168.1.1or you can type http://routerlogin.com
, it will prompt you for user name and password, the user name will be 'admin' and password will be 'password', make sure you type it in small case
c.On the left hand side their is blue coloum and under the heading of Setup the third option will be wireless settings and their you can see the password of your wireless network as key 1 or if it mention as passphrase so it will be like '******', so you have to change teh wireless settings.
d. before you change the settings you make sure you are not doing all these steps on wireless computer if yes before you go further connect your computer wired
e. Once its done , Now you can change the wireless settings...., AS IMAGE BELOW

3445167.gif
1. you need to chnage the wireless network name
2. CHANNEL you need to chnage it to 11 and if its 11 change it to 06
3. MODE should be b&g
4.security , i would suggest you WEP and in key 1 you can type any 10 digit number like you phone number or you can use the same number i have mention in that screen shot
5. Click on apply and then try to connect with your wireless laptop on which you will able to see your network name.
6. Try to connect with that network , it will prompt you for password, you need to type the 10 digit code you mentioned in Key1 option on that page.

I think by follow all these steps you will able to connect with your new laptop and if you change any wireless settings make sure you need to reconnect all other wireless computers again so that all the computers at your place work fine on new wireless network

Thanks

Can't connect Xp laptop to 64Bit Vista PC to be able to print across wireless network

yes easy to fix, just share your print driver give it a share name like canonmp780 on the pc it is connected to
then get on your laptop asuming its on your wireless network and in the start bar run this command. \\ your computer name one printer is connected to \ canonmp780.
so if your computer name is windows and your printer name is canonmp780 the run command will be: \\windows\canonmp780 hope this helps and really easiest way to connect to it.

Network Vista Wireless Laptop to XP Desktop & Print Documents

On the desktop machine - go to the printers folder, right click the icon for the Laserjet and choose sharing (enable print sharing). You should be able to name the printer and make it accessible to anyone within the workgroup. If needed you can run the network setup wizard to change the workgroup names on both machines.

On the laptop go to add new printer and choose network printer, you should be able to browse to the desktop machine by name and choose the Laserjet as a printer (whether you want it to be the default is up to you). The laptop will download and install the drivers from the desktop pc to the laptop and set the correct network path automatically.

It goes without saying that the desktop machine must be on in order to print from the laptop in this scenario.

Wireless laptop cannot connect to network printer

Found this solution:
  1. On Vista PC go to "Control Panel" - "Printers" - "Add printer".
  2. - Believe or not, click "Add a local printer" (I know you want to add a network printer but that way it doesn't work).
  3. - Click "Create a new port" - "Local Port" - "Next"
  4. - In the next box you have to enter a port name like this:\\PC name\Printer name where "PC name" is the network name of the XP PC or Network Share where you have the printer and "Printer name" is the network name of that printer. Be careful with this names. Check in your XP PC "Control Panel" - "Printers and faxes" - "your printer" - right click - "share" - "share resources name"
  5. - Choose the manufacturer and printer model of the printer you are adding.
  6. - Now the printer will be added and you can print a test page or print something to test it.
Let me know if it's working for your config as it worked for me
