Question about D-Link DP 301U (DP-301U) Print Server

1 Answer

I can not get two print servers to work on my network

I have 2 x DP 301U print servers, and two printers, Canon i560 inkjet and HP 1020 laserjet. I can get each printer to work on both print servers, one server at a time, but as soon as I connect both servers to the network the second one stops working. I have played with IP addresses, and no they are not in conflict. Each server works on its own but two together is a no no. If it fits (10 pages of text) below I will provide the debug log. NB the workgroup name is infact HOMENET in both cases - I changed it after saving the log, but it makes no difference anyhow. Neither the RSA nor the USA divisions of D-link have bothered to reply to my requests for help. In a nut shell it looks like a seriously inferior product that is a total dog to install, from a seriously disinterested company. Your help will be much appreciated. Hi,
I appreciate your help - but it did not work.
    I tried 192.168.0.20, 192.168.0.30, 192.168.0.60, 192.168.0.100, 192.168.0.200, and 192.168.0.255 but to no avail.

    Any other ideas?
    thanks again
    Mike

I would suggest that you set a higher Ip address then 9-10 as it is possible that your router/switch is possibly using one of these for DHCP, I have one of these myself, I had to put mine a little uprange to prevent my router / switch from interfering with it.

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

What is the difference between d link DPR 1020 and DP-301u

One of the main difference between this tow printer is the DPR1020 is made to work with all printer including those multi function printers , because this old DP301U was a older version of print server that don't support those new multi function printers features like scanning and fax. So if you have a multi function printer I will advice you to get the DPR1020 so all features of that printer will work behind this print server.

I have installed the DP-301U print server on my home network to print to an HP Laserjet 4050. When setting up the print server per instruction, I set my computer IP address to a static IP address. The...

Your print server has to have its own IP address. If you have your computer as 198.168.1.1 then your print server would be 198.168.1.2.
You cant have the same IP address on any 2 items on your network.

Printing Problem

i got my dp-301u to work fine with my hp1020 on 2 different workstations with the following steps.

1. install printer locally via usb and test.
2. create a second printer as per the dlink manual creating a port. don't worry about the name as we will delete it.
3. once created go into the properties of the 2nd printer and change the port to something local - anything will do to free up the port.
4. go into the properties of the printer that was created in step 1. and change the port to that of the print server.
5. test print. should work fine.

cheers!!

Using HP Laserjet P1006. Is it compatible with DP-301U

Yes. I just got mine working last night. Key is to enable print services for windows through the control panel. Without that LPR printing does not work.

Did you try using LPR mode instead? I find it works more relyable with any print server. SMB (windows network mode) is ****. I have had simalar problems with another printserver.

I have one of theses D-Link PD-301U. It does NOT support a printer like yours. According to D-Link's Web site, here are the HP Laser printers it supports (note the P1008 is NOT in the list):

Hi How to check the print server is in the wireless network or not!! Check under the Router Setup page Router's ip address... Check if you are able to ping the Print Server Ip address....Since it the router will assign a ip address from DHCP range.. If you are able to ping the router's ip address and the print server ip address then the print server is in the Wireless LAN... Try the following steps. 1. Go to run and type "cmd" press enter 2. type ipconfig. 3. Check the range of ip address...if its 192.168.0.XX 4. Try pinging that ip address.. 5. If able to ping the router and print server.. Then the wireless network is fine... Somehow some of the printer's don't work with some of the print servers.. Check if D-link does support the printer or not!!!! for this particular model of the router...
