Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, it would seem that the network/IP address of the shared computer or printer has changed since you changed routers. This would hold true since both models of routers are DHCP enabled meaning both provides their own batch of IP addresses. Two ways to go about this:

  • re-install the shared printer/computer to all the PCs attached to the network;
  • manually configure the IP address to follow the old setup.
Post back updates/developments. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Hi, is the hp6400 connected to the network wirelessly? You will most likely have to configure it again, possibly by connecting it with usb to your computer and runing the configuration software again. or reinstalling it.

HP LaserJet 1022 is a "host-based" printer so it must be connected to a PC. Load the driver on PC first and connect the USB cable when software tells you to do so.

Will not work on a Linksys print server.

LaserJet 1022N & LaserJet 1022NW have "special" HP print servers that can support HP host based printers.

Explore the CD and check if it has drivers for Windows Vista. If none, check their website and look for any available drivers or see if it is already compatible with Windows Vista.

Below is the link for Linksys wireless adapters:

HP printer cannot find access point and I'm not sure what to do.

You must first connect your printer to the pc using usb cable, then run installation wizard that is on the CD that came with the printer.

Wizard will guide you through the setup orcess where you will provider your routers ssid (linksys) to your printer, and your printer will use that ssid to connect to your router.

After the Wizard setup is done, it will tell you to disconnect the usb cable and only then your printer will work on wireless.

Good luck,

Wireless printer

it sounds as if the printer may not be set as the default printer, so check in the installed printers and check and also check that the printer you are sending the print to is the setup one and not a pdf or microsoft office document printer, this is found on the drop down box when the print option appears. i am also assuming that the printer has worked before from vista to an xp machine as sometimes xp needs a small update to be used with a vista pc on the network

What brand of print server would be compatible with a linksys broadband router and the HP printer?

You asked for any advice. If you want to use a server, you must already have at least a home network set up (it could be wireless or hard-wired). Yes, stand-alone "print servers" are notorious for only supporting certain printers. If you don't know this before you buy, you may find yourself returning your print server to the store. However, instead of a standalone print server, have you considered setting up one of the computers in your network as a "print server"? That's the way it used to be done. That's the way my own network is set up. You would set up your multifunction printer as connected directly to one of the computers in your network. Enable "printer sharing" on that computer. Then do the following on all other computers in the network for which you desire access to the printer: Add a network printer. If asked for drivers, get them off the printer's installation CD.
