YM error 81003005/log-in ID, password invalid

Since last Dec 2008 I started encountering error 81003005 or "try again" to re-enter ID and password...sign-in problems...everytime I try to log in thru YM but at lucky times I am able to sign in. I never changed log in ID or password and the same details I used to log in thru my yahoo mail so I don't think it's the Sign-In Problems....mostly I get error 81003005.... how can i work this out.... so i can log in thru my YM without problems? thanks.

I observed that this yahoo messenger comes with the network's (where you are connected at) firewall restrictions. There has got to be in between with your YM and the firewall. This problem is common when you belong to a proxy.
Secondly, if the firewall is the one not bugging you, it might be the DNS servers are causing the troubles. Sometimes, it seems the connection goes well only that DNS problems got in the way. This occurs rarely but if you can catch this problem, headache solve. The second solution discusses this.
Lastly, this has also got to do with the software part, that is the YM itself. As you can read in some of the comments below, other accounts work well and to some do not. If this is the case, then the connection (firewall) itself is not the problem but the software. Yahoo's advise is to update to its recent version of YM. Well, I did this but I was trapped with the same problem. My second solution works well for this kind of problem. Read on.
Solutions
[Solution #1]
Here's how I solve it:
1. Open your Internet Explorer
2. Go to Tools > Internet Options then click the Connections tab
3.Click the LAN Settings button and a new dialog box will open
4. At the new dialog box, look for the Proxy server checkbox, if this is checked, uncheck it.
5. Then your done, click OK button for the dialog boxes.
6. Try logging in to your Yahoo Messenger account.
My solution is good only if you have set your proxy server previously in your Internet Explorer. I've noticed this behaviour since in our school, I need to set the proxy server to access the internet. But at home, I don't need to. So when I am at home, this is the normal situation I encounter when I forget to unset back the proxy settings.
On the other hand, the other way around should work. What I mean here is, if you connect to a network that has a proxy server, you need to setup the proxy settings in order for you to use their internet services. Thus, access to yahoo could be established.
[Solution #2]
One area to look also if the proxy is not the one causing the problem, you can check if you have your DNS Server address(es) set, which - in case you have changed your network, can't be accessible to the new network. Thus, it can cause this error.
So, you may unset the DNS Servers (Go to Network Properties >> General Tab >> TCP/IP Properties >> General Tab > Obtain DNS Server address automatically) and try logging in your YM.
[Solution #3]
If the above solutions does not go well, this last one might be the savior. Instead of constantly banging your heads with those re-logins and reconfigurations, you can track back your YM version and replace it with an old version instead. I did this and it works for me well. I had before a version 9 Yahoo Messenger and when I replace it with a version 8, the problem was solved. This should be your last resort if the previous won't work. Remember also to be patient. If it bugs you, don't bug down... bug up!
Here's an old version of Yahoo Messenger (8.1.0.419.exe) - [Download]
Hope these helps.

Error code 401

Sounds like you are probably messing up the username and password.

"Generally this error message means you need to log on (enter a valid user ID and password) somewhere first. If you have just entered these and then immediately see a 401 error, it means that one or both of your user ID and password were invalid for whatever reason (entered incorrectly, user ID suspended etc.)."

Cant log in my ym account 81003005*

The Yahoo Instant Messanger server more than likly is down for a short time. Give it 5 or 10 minutes and try it again. You should be able to log in as long as you are using the right login and password. Thank you for using Fixya.

Messenger error 81003005

Hi,

here are some causes: Firstly; this error occurs when your connection preferences are not properly set. I'm not talking about your Yahoo! ID and Password here, but you may need to adjust certain features depending on what network you're on. Let's says for example, if a firewall protects your network, it may block yahoo messenger when it tries to connect to the server. You need to change your connection settings, click the Messenger menu in yahoo messenger and select Connection Preferences. Select Firewall With No Proxies. Select your Internet Connection type from the pull-down menu at the bottom and enter your Home Country if the adoptions aren?t grayed out. Click OK and login again using the new settings. If this option doesn?t work, click Connection Preferences in Yahoo! Messenger again and select No Network Detection. Try to login again using the new settings. In some instances, you may need to provide yahoo messenger with the IP address of your firewall or proxy server (you can get this information from your network administrator or from your Internet service provider). Click Messenger and select Connection Preferences again. Select Use Proxies. Enable either the HTTP Proxy or the SOCKS Proxy as needed and provide the proper address. Click OK and login again using the new settings.Secondly; if you are using IM9 there are sign in problems. This is what yahoo has to say. Try an updated version of Yahoo! Messenger 9.0(9.0.0.2128). This latest build includes a fix for the sign-in issues that have been affecting some users. If you were seeing an error code?81003005? when trying to sign in, this latest version may fix that problem. Even if you were experiencing a different kind of sign-in issue, I recommend installing this latest version. Hope it was helpful!

Thanks.

Errror 81003005 wont let me sign in to yahoomessneger

ok, in my case i remembered I tried using a proxy on internet explorer and forgot to put it off, so the proxy connection was still on even though the proxy was dead.

It now a proven fact to me that internet explore settings are linked to yahoo mess!
so make sure your internet explorer is working ok without proxy:

6. Try logging in to your Yahoo Messenger account.

good luck =)

Please try again a little bit later . (81003005)

I had the same exact problem and I solved it myself. This error will also display if you had changed your password recently. To fix it, you simply enter your new password in. Your Yahoo! Messenger will then be able to login again. Note: This will only work if you have the "Remember my ID & Password" checked. If not, then it could be that you're entering your password in wrong or something. Another thought is that maybe your account got hacked and the hacker had changed the password on you.
