I have a maxtor 3200 160 gbyte hd and windows vista home premium won't recognize it. it shows in device manager and disk management, but with no drive letter, and when i right click it i get no option to change or assign a drive letter. any suggestions?
Hey guys I had the same problem... All the drivers for the device are inside the harddrive. Maxtor doesn't have any because you don't need any. What they've neglected to let any of us know is the power supply provided with the unit isn't powerful enough to run it. Replace the original power supply with another one and this will solve the problem. I replaced mine with an old laptops power supply, the fit was alittle tight but believe me it works.
Worked straight away....i just swapped my power supply with another newer maxtor one touch and started up right away....great advice

I'm having the same problem, and I'm assuming it's a driver problem. Maxtor/Seagate does not have a driver for this hard drive for Vista. Any suggestions?
Im having the same problem here, and theres no vista compatiable driver to be found.

Hi, just wondering if any one can help... I have used my maxtor 3200 before with a window xp computer sp2... i now try to use it again, it installs but won't show on my p.c apart from disk management. i was told to format this to NTFS so it would show.... but the hard drive has no name and the format option won't let me click it.
I Really need help asap
