Question about Compaq Creative Sound Blaster PCI 128 Sound Card

1 Answer

No sound is coming out of my compaq laptop at all.

According to the screen on my compaq laptop, it says that the volume is turned up, but according to the keyboard the sound is turned off

To turn the volume up or down or put it to mute on my laptop is i guess you could say touch screen. The picture for mute is orange which means the sound is turned off, when i press it to turn back on, nothing seems to change, the light stays orange and no sound comes out.

Please help me, i really need to fix this problem.

My compaq laptop sound has working fine till yesterday...suddenly it stopped working...what might be the problem?

First the obvious.

Check and make sure the volume is not on mute and it is turned all the way up. Also check the sound properties through the Control Panel and make sure all the volume knobs are turned up.

The not-so-obvious

Check the device manager to see if there are any warnings in the section called 'Sound, video, and game controllers'. The best way to access the Device Manager is to click Start, right-click Computer(Windows 7) or My Computer(Windows XP) and click Manage. The computer management screen will come up and you'll click on Device Manager. If there is a red X or a yellow ! then run windows updates and see if there are any hardware drivers needing downloaded.

Hope this helps!

My Gateway Sound Blaster CT4870 Sound Card seems to be installed and working properly according to device manager in windows but I don't get any sound. where do I find a driver for this sound card that...

Firstly check the volume is not low or muted on both windows and the speakers. In windows click the speaker icon in the bottom right of your screen, check the volume is turned up. Then click mixer or advanced and check that all volumes are turned up.
If using a laptop, check that the hotkey control for volume is on. You will see an audio icon on one of your ‘F’ keys, hold the Fn button located near the ctrl and press the volume function key.

You can goto the manufacturers website, find their support section and there should be a list of drivers for your specific machine. Installing these should resolve your problem.
Hope this helps,

Well looks like your system has the 64Bit 3.3V PCI connectors. According to this WIKI
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conventional_PCI
You can use any conventional PCI adapters. So you should be able to use any PCI sound card you want as long as the drivers and compatable with your chosen OS.
My advice, as long as you are using Windows not Unix/LINUX or Novel. Buy one at best buy and keep the reciept.
Hope this helps.

Software for vista

According to the manufacturer's site, there are no plans to develop drivers for that product:

Are you plugging into the 'LINE' output, and not the 'SPEAKER' output. The speaker output should turn off the local speakers (green jack).
