This informational page is still a little hazy as far as an actual safe procedure is concerned. For any hvps capacitor it is recomended (and actually enforced by us navy electronics standards) to use an acrylic handled shorting probe with a grounding strap and clamp to connect to the chasis (which may not be grounded at all if it is not plugged in so try to find a good solid ground to use). The principal is the same - you just want to touch the terminals. There may be arcing, though this is normal if the cap is charged. Ensure that you are not touching the chasis or whatever ground you are using when shorting the cap and always be sure to use the one hand rule so in case of shock, the current does not travel a path across your chest. You can probably buy these online somewhere - I just think that web site is a little to lax on the proper materials - I mean, I know a screwdriver will do just fine but I would rather be safe myself

Where is the fuse for the magnetron on a GE spacemaker microwave?

Unplug microwave, remove top, and follow the wire from the keypad/control board assembly to the printed circuit board, look for a silver rectangular high voltage capacitor and discharge across the two points with a screwdriver, nearby you sould see a clipped in fuse, pop it out and replace with the same current rating.

Microwave turns on, but does not heat food or beverage put into it

It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 on high resistance range for short circuit, the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.

What you need to do is remove the case of the microwave and you should be able see the globe inside the unit, make sure you discharge the high voltage capacitor before touching anything else. After that is done, simply remove the globe. Good Luck.

GE SPACEMAKER JVM1650 ''MICROWAVE MAKING LOUD HUMMING NOISE AND INSIDE REAL HOT WHEN DOOR CLOSED''WHEN DOOR OPEN DON'T HUM

When door open the microwave should not work at all, if the turntable and light come on with the door open , if they do , then this is an additional problem with door switch and must be fixed.

Regarding humming noise and no heath, Test the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode.or the magnetron.

If it additionally does not spin and no light, then check also the door switch.

The diode and capacitors can br tested. The capacitor must be allowed discharge before testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, even if power is off. Capacitors can get discharged by shorting their two contacts.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

All locations, and description of this parts can be located using the diagram here: Counter top.

Parts must be tested to find out what is wrong.

Remember that microwaves are potentially dangerous devices if not repaired properly, the job must be done by a competent person.
A microwave energy leakage test must always be performed when the oven is serviced for any reason.

Regarding parts, contact the seller here to purchase parts. (here in UK).

Ge microwave spacemaker XL 1400

First guess: thermosensor. This is a black item the size of a dime and 3/8 inch thick located on the wall of the oven inside the pad area. Test for continuity. There may be more than one fuse involved. Some of these units have weak relays (tell me about it!). You can replace the heat relay with a 12 automotive relay if you're good...if not, you'll have to replace the board.

I did two relays...and then needed a new board for other reasons on my own unit. Rebuilt boards are available online.
