Want to restore laptop to factory settings

I have AVG and spybot on my computer. I constantly have a pop up that blocks my use of the internet. It's advertising "Antivirus 360" I can normally hit the back button and it allows me to continue using the internet but it's becoming more and more of an issue. Please help!

Okay, what you want is AVG Free 8.0, you can get this at download.com by CNET. Get rid of that other ****. I think it's your spybot doing it. Get rid of those going to your start menu and your controls, then go to add or remove programs, ONLY REMOVE SPYBOT AND AVG, then download the version I told you. You go to that site then search that at the toolbar and download. This is 100% trusted, I dowanload everything from there too. While you're at it get Mozilla Firefox too, it's way faster than Internet Explorer and has pop-up blocker built in. Comparing Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox is like a Honda vs. a Ferrari, (Ferrari being Firefox, lol.). If you have any other problems you can E-mail me at a_hale16@yahoo.com cause I don't have an account on here. But try that and contact me if it doesn't work or help, by the way no problem if it works.

Hi victoria...

You don't need to do anything as drastic as a system restore to your laptop!! Is your AVG a free version or do you pay for a subscription?

If it's a free version, this is probably the ad to upgrade to the full version. i don't use AVG so i don't know what their ads look like... you will find this happens with some free software... i know it's not spybot because i've been using that for years and it has no popup ads.

to get rid of the ad, you have to pay a subscription, or just bear with it, if you're happy with the free version, and close the popup.

you can also try another free antivirus program if you want... be sure to uninstall the other one first. Avira is good, and only pops up an ad when you update the program or virus file.

hope that helps!

My laptop battery doesn't hold a charge and my computer runs slow

Sounds like 2 problems. If the laptop does not hold a charge, and if the adapter wiggles, more then likely, you need a new motherboard. You can call manufacturer and see what one would cost.

2nd- Runs slow. Either you need more more Ram, and or You are infected.

You might need to do a Reformat. Be sure and do a Back-up First., because you will loose everything.

If you know how to do a back-up, save all your documents, pictures and music. If not take it to a reputable computer shop to take of this. There will be a slight charge, but they will save all your important data.

My computer is very slow and there is virus what l have to do?

Go to this site

http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/

and run a full scan - this will remove most of the viruses on your computer. Should help speed it up as well.

Once thats done, install AVG Free and run a full scan

Install for AVG ->http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html

Once AVG is done scanning, i'd also install and run SpyBot S&D to remove any other infections that AVG/HouseCall may have missed.

Install for SpyBot S&D -> http://download.cnet.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html

After HouseCall, AVG and SpyBot have ran, you should be all set! If you can't get to any IE pages, and are posting this from a different computer, see below on how to restore your IE settings...

Being that you were able to get to this site to post, i can assumeIf you can't seem to get to the site, which happens w/ some viruses, try restoring your internet back to its original state. There's steps on how to do that below as well.

  1. 1: Open up the internet window, by clicking on the "blue e" on your desktop, or by going to the Start Menu, All programs, internet Explorer
  2. Step 3 blue-e-2_thumb.jpg From the Start Menu If the "blue E" is not in fact on your desktop then refer to the picture in this step.
  3. Step 4 toolsmenu_thumb.jpg Menu Bar 2: Once the internet is open, you will then want to go to the "Tools" Menu, in the internet window. If you are using internet explorer 7 the tools menu is on what is called the Menu bar, and this menu bar generally is in the upper left hand corner.

    Picture is attached.
  4. Step 5 internetoptions_thumb.jpg Internet options selection 3: Once you click the Tools Menu, then select, internet options. Image below attached, then click on internet options to go into the internet options dialog box.
  5. Step 6 ioptionsdialogbox_thumb.jpg Advanced Tab 4: Once you have selected the internet options click on the advanced tab all the way to the right, picture attached. Once you have selected, advanced at the bottom right there is an option there to RESET, this will restore the default settings, of your internet explorer Browser.
  6. Step 7 5: Reboot machine.

Also, another thing to consider is a system restore, if your computer is so bad that the above isn't working. For XP, system restore works wonders. See below for instructions on how to complete a system restore.

1.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
2.
On the Welcome screen, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.
3.
On the Select a Restore Point page, select the date from the calendar that shows the point you'd like to restore to, as shown in Figure 2, and then click Next.
sysrest2.jpg
Figure 2
4.
On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, verify that the correct restore point is chosen, and then close any open programs.
5.
Click Next if you are ready to proceed or click Back to change the restore point.
6.
The computer will shut down automatically and reboot. On reboot, you'll see the Restoration Complete page, and then click OK.
After reviewing the stability of your system, you can choose another restore point or undo this restoration. Just open System Restore and make the appropriate choice. After you use System Restore, you'll have an additional task, Undo my last restoration, on the System Restore Welcome page. Remember that you'll have to reinstall any programs that were installed after the restore point.
If System Restore doesn't work in Normal Mode, it might work in Safe Mode. To use System Restore in Safe Mode, press the F8 key during reboot and choose Safe Mode. When your computer starts in either Safe Mode or Normal Mode, System Restore can be used to capture a working previous state. System Restore can't be opened unless the system is bootable into one of these modes.

...ok, im running out of breath here!! Hope all this helps - good luck!!

If you have a Factory Restore CD from Acer, you can boot the laptop with that in the drive, and it will start you on the process of restoring it to the factory configuration.

Black screen on the right side of my acer 5630

Have you tried Video drivers from INTEL instead of from Acer?

I use the drivers right from the factory sometimes that takes care of the problem.

Also have you done a scan for malware, spyware, virus, and any other nasty program?

That could be one of those things.

I use AVGfree, Comodo firewall, and "spybot search and destroy" to keep my system clean.

None of the above cost anything to acquire and run if it asks for payment you are in the wrong place. These are top rated donate ware and are very nice. Spybot has to be manually told to look for upgrades but the others do it automatically.

Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
AVG http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition
Comodo http://www.comodo.com/

AVG is my choice for a Virus scanner and Comodo's Firewall is great. You can buy the others if you want.

Comodo has several other tools but AVG seems to have everything covered in my opionion. I just use the Internet Security product from Comodo.

Sounds like you have a bunch of spyware and adware. If you are lucky enough to be able to save your computer, boot into safe mode with networking and download and run scans with the following programs:
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
Lavasoft Ad-Aware Free Edition
Spybot Search and Destroy

In Spybot, run an immunization as well which should help to prevent future "breakouts" I would also recommend setting Spybot and AVG up to do a weekly/monthly scan of your computer. You can also do this with Ad-Aware but you would need to pay for a higher version.

Factory Restore computer

Yes, factory re-imaging of the computer will work. But it's overkill.

Her computer is most likely infected with a virus that tells windows to shutdown.

Before reformatting the computer, have her boot into safe mode. Do this by hitting F8 while the computer is booting, and the safe mode menu will pop up, where she can pick "Safe Mode" as the method of booting.

When windows comes up, she should run a virus scan on her computer and try and get rid of the problem. She does have some kind of anti-virus utility installed right? If not, get AVG Free Edition from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads?prd=aff
