Open the front door and close it and check if the display reads loading toner. Try this for 3 times. If Add toner indicator is still there, check that you had removed the black cap of the toner, before you replaced the toner bottle. Remove the bottle from the holder and check inside the neck of the holder if there is something blocking the toner supply. (sometimes the inner plastic cap of the previous toner is stucked in the neck). Check and clean the toner bottle holder unit. Another problem can be worn gears in the lower development unit and within the dev. bias roller. Good luck and please rate me, thanks.
Clean the inside of the printer, if ther is residual toner on top of the sensors, then the machine may not detect the new toner cartridge, see : Clean your laser printer safely.
After you replaced the cartridge the front panel should have asked you if this was a new cartridge when you selected yes it should have returned to standby mode did this happen? Also did you follow the instructions installing the new toner? Thanks, lee

it has not waster toner bottle on the machine, the waster toner is being recycled in the photo-conductor unit (PCU) so if the machine show replace the waster toner bottle just clean the PCU of the machine on the drum upper area
ricoh 1502... just enter to sp mode (yellow, 1,0,7, push 'c' button 5sec.).... after entering sp mode, switch off & on the machine; if not cleard sc541,,, check thermistors for open/short circuited before going to changing powr supply board 7 finelly BICU (mothr board)
open the front door of the machine.
remove the toner unit gently .
replace toner bottle.
refix the toner unit ans close the door .
wait for toner to load.
good luck..
If the copies look fine it is the toner hopper. It does not remove the seal from the bottle when closed. If the copies are getting light it could be the developer unit has worn out bushings and gears thus it does not turn properly making it impossible to sense the toner level and the constant add toner message. Usually you can hear noise if this is the case. Look at the oriface where the toner drops into the photoconductor unit from the toner unit. Is it full of toner coming out the top? If so, time to replace the PCU.
The first thing i can tell you is that is weird!!!!
Because if you change the developer that error should disappear. It could appear later but not in the moment because the developer already have toner and the TD sensor will read it. And that's the question: When you said "replace developer" you mean just the developer or the DEVELOPER UNIT??? Is your TD sensor working good????
You can go here and download the manual. Even though it's a Gestetner...it cross references to a Ricoh Aficio CL2000. Ricoh builds all of their machines. Look for it under "printers"..."color":

the part numbers are different for each toner from ricoh, Lanier, Savin and Gestetner. From what I recall is the bottles are different, check the old bottle vs new. Also if the machine had run very low you may have to open and close the fron cover several times, this intiates a toner feed program.
When you put a new cartridge in I take it you have removed the black cap that sits on top of the toner bottle (if you haven't remove it) The machine as default allows a 15 second gap from when you open the door and put the cartridge in to when you close the door. If you are too fast at changing toner open the door wait 15-20 seconds then close the door . Machine will then show on the control panel that toner is loading. If this does not work repeat two more times if still does not work then the drum unit (Photo Conductor Unit) is not accepting toner you will have to replace it.
