Sony PCV-RS720G - DVD-Rom gone bad

I have a Sony PCV-RS720G and the dvd-rom went bad. Bought a replacement but can't get the computer apart to swap them. Any idea how the front cover comes off and if the drives slide out?

  • Chris Winters Jul 26, 2007

Thanks, but it doesn't show how to get the front cover off so I can get to the dvd-rom drive. Must be some way to remove the front cover and slide the unit out so I can have access to the four screws that hold the drive in. But I can't see anyway to remove the front cover.

  • Chris Winters Jul 27, 2007

Gave it another look tonight with a fresh pair of eyes, found the clips for the front cover, removed the two screws and cables from the dvd-rom, swapped them out and put everything back together in about 5 minutes. Thanks for your help tomj23.

Here is a link to instructions that detail how to replace a hard drive but it shows you how to open the case: javascript:moreinfowindow('http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/DocsConnect/docget.asp?manualid=90411&DL=',600,560,10,10,'Manuals')

Sorry, that link was messed up, try this one: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/T998601...

I can?t see clearly in the documents available on-line, but I believe the front is held on the metal chassis by plastic clips. In one image I believe I see one of them just below the hard drive cage (horizontal). There are probably several of them on both the left and right hand sides, probably center and bottom. The top typically has a plastic hinge/catch, undo the bottom, work your way to the center and then swing the cover up and the top should release. Remove the screws from both sides of the drive, disconnect the cables and slide it out.

I wiped out the cd/dvd DRIVERS on my sony pcv-rs310

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

Help me remove DVD burner for replacement on my Sony PCV-RS720G. Get screws out but something keeps hanging it up and I can't find what it is.

Make sure to remove the power and data cables from the back of the drive.
Sometimes there is a lever or catch of some sort that releases the drive.

Good luck!

The cd-rom on my sony vaio pcv-rx370ds is not recognized by the bios or it fails worked fine yesterday 11/16/10 Thank you for any help

I would suspect that the CD-Rom drive has gone bad. The easiest way to check this is to swap it out with a working CD-Rom drive. If the bios recognizes that one you have the culprit. If that is not the problem, I would then check the cables. If they are all ok, I would make sure the BIOS is updated. If none of these solved your problem, It may be a bad IDE or SATA port, or failing power supply.

Why my [sony cd rw dvd rom] will not detect a blank dvd disk

If you have the sony CD RW DVD ROM then you can't burn the data in a blank DVD.

Because your Configuration is :
Read : CD / DVD
Write : CD

This means you have a combo drive. But to burn a DVD you should have DVD RW.

Replacing the powersupply on a Sony VAIO PCV-RS720G desktop

Hi There,

From the looks of things that model will take a standard ATX power supply which would be available from and computer part dealer and ebay etc, get yourself a nice 400w replacement try and get a small form factor one if you can as it will be a tight sqeeze inside the case.

when replacing it you will have to open the case up (get an anti static wristband if you can, and work on a table rather that a carpeted floor) un hook all the connectors the old power supply (one in each drive and there should be 2 in the motherboard) you may have to pull the Dvd rom out slightly to get the new supply in, unscrew the 4 case screws holding the power supply from the back of the case. lift it out then put in the new one, screw it in using the case screws and connect up the internal power cables to the drives motherboard and new graphics card, close the case, plug in and voila

If you get stuck just ask and we will help

My computer won't recognize my Sony DVD-Rom DDU1612.

Hi.

I think you have to set the jumpers on youre drive.
there are 2 plugs on the IDE-cable to connect 2 drives. they are
MASTER (at the end of cable) and SLAVE (the middle one)
so you have to set youre drive to Master or Slave with the jumpers on its backside. if only 1 drive is connected then its allways MASTER.

Hope could help you.
Regrets Gue.
