Question about Air Conditioners

1 Answer

My father has an older model two and a half ton goodman gas package unit. it has had two boards put in it, the problem is that the unit will go through a heat cycle and the combustion motor and the circulating fans will not cut off. The loop from the board through the limits is fine. The new boards did not fix it, all components check out.

Does the thermostat ever satisfy that the space is heated?

If not, then the fans will not go off and you need to look for a different problem, like a dirty A coil or something.

If the thermostat does satisfy, first thing is to know if the thermostat fan switch is set to ON or Auto. On, the blower runs all the time regardless (but does not explain combustion air motor.).

The fan induction motor produces a vacuum, check of orofice on motor is plugged by pulling hose off switch end and putting in mouth while running and sucking, this will make a whining sound immediately if no restriction. the fans are controlled through the board by vac., swich, limit sitches, and timers in the board itself. maybe a bad ground on flame sensor.

I just installed this unit and can not get the blower to run

Seriously depends on what unit you have. Model # & serial #? You can "jump" R to G at the unit. If its a standard Goodman AHU there may be a terminal block or just some wires that were factory installed outside of the unit. R to G will send 24v to the blower relay, sequencer or board (depending on model) energizing the relay and then returning to common. If you have tried that you should ensure you have proper line voltage 220-240vac. at the service breakers on the AHU.

Where is fuse for 5 ton goodman package unit heat pump

Im assuming you mean the low voltage fuse? In that case its located on the circuit board inside the electrical panel on the unit. If looking for the high voltage fuse (breaker) you should have a disconnect outside protected by a breaker inside at the electric service panel (breaker box).

Goodman package unit heat strips will not turn on

Put meter probes at in put terminal of the element if you read 220volts that mean your relay is good. if you got it there use amp meter on one leg of that element. You should read some amp draw there but if there is no amp draw it mean the element broke.

Keepe shutting down the heat.

Mark is right 5 tons is way too big and you are probably icing up. Even here in Az we size units to no less than 500 sq. ft. per ton and more like 700 sq. ft. per ton. What is the make and model number of your unit? I'm a Goodman Authorized Contractor so I should have most info on hand.
